35 remington for the win! But between the two id go 30-30 with new bullet and powder technology. The 30-30 aint your papys gun anymore and its just classic

Of the two mentioned I'd go 30-30. But if I could choose it would be a Browning BLR in .308

AR15 458 SOCOM. You can shoot through brush. You can probably shoot through trees.
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

Marlin 308 SDT.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Marlin 336 30-30 with Wild West Happy trigger, comb riser, poished internals and the barrel band has been loosened slightly to improve barrel harmonics. Leupold VX-3 1.75-6x32 with German #4 reticle installed by the Leupold custom shop. It does shoot MOA. I want to eventually get an AR in .260 Remington.

I like the FNAR. It's handy in brush but has enough power to go long too.

I just sling up my AR10 with 1-4 scope or red dot sight. That gives me 25 rounds to play with and nothing to hold while walking. AR15 will be a little lighter and still a great option. While a 3030 is nice, it will be easier to get follow up shots on a sounder using dot sight on AR..

I tend to like an AR or an 18" barrel 12ga for all purpose use - about the same weight. For closer range shooting, there isn't much you can't do with 00 buck, and even cheap slugs still carry a lot of energy at 50-75 yds.

Whats your budget? $400 a marlin 30-30 with iron sights. Or a AR in 7.62-39. Soto arms upper $375-$400. PSA blem lower $159 optics(value priced) and A mag would put you at $650. Both would work to 150-200 yds. Just my

AR15 458 SOCOM. You can shoot through brush. You can probably shoot through trees. Really intrigued by the .45 caliber ARs (.450 and .458), I just don't really have a use for one.

30-30 lever action. I hear tell the red dots make them pretty tight shooters at 100 yards with the modern ammo.
16" AR-15 in 7.62 x 39, with a 1-4X or 1-6X I want to get some brass, and other components and see how well I can make a friend's rifle do with a hand load. It already impressed me with factory ammo.
16" LR 308 with a 1-6X or a 2.5-10X. I am carrying this set up now (bigger scope) and it isn't terribly heavy with a standard barrel, and free float tube.

A nice Winchester 94 big bore in .307/.356 or .375. Classic, but still hits harder then the .30 WCF.

Remington 760 pump action in 35 Remington. Bought it used many years ago at a gun show and my sister has it now. Great caliber, can shoot follow-up shots surprisingly quick, and very accurate to about 125 yards.

Winchester 94 in 30-30 with a peep sight. I opted for a simple red dot sight for my Marlin 336. IMO, a more simple sight works best for a hog gun because you never know when a close shot might become necessary.

Ruger SBH in 44 mag. Or a 92 trapper in 44.

I like my Marlin in .35 Rem.

I like my Marlin in .35 Rem. Posts like yours just serve to remind me what a dumbass I am...was at a Mesquite (or Lewisville - yeah I'm forgetful too) show a few weeks back. Someone was walking around with a Marlin pre-safety 336 in .35 Remington for $350. No I did not need it, but I sure should have gotten it anyways...Dumbass..

My first thought was 45-70 Marlin when I read the title. Of the 2 you listed either would be fine. If I had both in the truck, I'd take the 30-30 probably. 45-70 is still more fun. Not a hard kicker like some say.
