I was wondering if anyone has used a .257 Roberts for axis? Going on a hunt next month was wanting to use my child hood gun since my dad is going on the hunt and purchased the gun for me!

Oh hell yeah. Do that! But make sure you have a properly constructed bullet. Expect entry and expansion but don't count on an exit if you are shooting at any great distance.
And as always, shot placement is king.

.257 is plenty of gun for game up to 350 pounds. Just use a good heavy constructed bullet, like a nosler accubond.

I have killed 10 or so deer with the federal 120 np. All drt and never recovered a bullet. I have some hornady 117 grain but not shot anything with them. If they work for you on deer should be ok also for axis.
