Had a report in the neighborhood behind us, that a pack of 8 coyotes were roaming the streets during mid morning. We back up to a flood plain off lake lavon, with houses on 3 sides. Well I trapped one that we had seen in my neighbors yard last fall, nasty looking yote and very mangy.
After the recent report I decided to set out a couple of traps and try to thin them out a bit. Got one Saturday morning after a 2 day sit on the traps. Gonna run about half a dozen traps couple miles up the road at my parent place. They have had a healthy population for years and shoot one every so often. The lady across the creek from them raises Roosters and has had issues with coyotes and bobcats fairly regularly, hopefully I can help her out too. More coyotes to fall, I'm gonna be heading out this weekend to run about 24 coil spring traps and 2 dozen duke's DP traps. Be nice to get my first bobcat in a trap too, should be good chances with all the quail and rats we saw this year. Adios and thanks for looking!
Trapped Coyote #1 for the year:

I like hearing them in the evenings, adds to the whole outer city living thing. But, when they start running in packs of 8 or even less they are a killing machine. Almost any size pet they deem a threat or edible is in danger. I'll never get them all and don't want too, but they need a little culling.

Tell the neighbors to keep their dogs locked up for a while. They may get pissed if their family pet gets caught in one.

All yards are fenced and no pets roam free. An occasional stray comes through, but rarely. Believe me the last thing i want is catch someones pet.

Nice. They are everywhere though. One down, a million more to go. You have to constantly trap or won't do any good as I am sure you know.

What is your trap setup? Bait?

I have 2 packs running my place and have been popping them as targets of opportunity. They don't respond to calling at all. I had one break a snare and take off with it. I have some old leg hold traps that I can use. I need a little guidance if you don't mind.

Using the MB 550 coil spring trap, Closed Jaw. Berkshire heavy duty anchor with 15-20" long cable. Still trying various baits and lures, at home and the lease. Seems most have hit the O gormans Gov Call and Freeboroughs Mouse meat. You tube is your friend. A little bit of preparation and maintenance is involved. As well as keeping the set area as scent free as possible. I'm still learning and only on my second year.

Got some of those guys in my neighborhood too. I've been plotting a safe way to get 'em. I'm on a culdesac, next to about 100 acres, so they like to come right up to my fence and stare at our chickens.

I got a shotgun, a rifle and a 4WD.

You should hear the pack that roams out past my back fence. I'm getting a can this year before we are annexed from Travis county to the Bern Socialist republic of Austin...

My heeler pup found the lost snare today, with a rotten coyote carcass in it. Sucker drug it and the sapling it was attached to a couple hundred yards and tangled in a briar thicket. Reset it for tonight.

Don't attach it to anything that can be chewed through, better off to X stake, or wire to barbed wire fence where they cross if you can. If they can't drag it off, it usually is a quick kill with a snare, as long as the loop size was right and they didn't get a leg through and get half wrapped.

That sapling was yanked out the ground roots and all, 1 1/2" pin oak. Yes, I have it on a T-post now, fool me once an all. This is my first foray into snares, learning curve sucks, but it's like Christmas every day running the line! Thanks for the tip!

Yes sir, small tree like that not much of a challenge for a big yote, especially if the snare isn't in the right position (fast choke down). If he was able to pull the tree out, he probably didn't get a good wrap around the neck.

Oh it was a good wrap, the cable was around the neck right behind the ears. My bad judgement on the anchor was the factor in having to go look for him. I know better now.
