What difference does "preban" make?

If I remember correctly, the pre-ban AR's have 3 firing settings.

1) Safety
2) Single round shot
3) 3 round burst or auto (not sure which one it is)

There's a spring or something in the lower which will not let you switch it to the third option (to make it legal). I think it can be removed though.

Agreed photos and serial number range are needed. If it doesn't have a bayonet lug, it is not a preban gun. After the '94 AWB Colt manufactured their rifles and carbines without bayonet lugs except for the LEO variants - until the ban sunseted in '04 and they went back to all the evil little features.

As for what differences does it make? LOTS.

To clarify, this is NOT the case. Pre/post ban centers around when the gun was built, and the AWB of 94.

Messing with the fire control group to make a semi-auto firearm function other than semi is a whole different no-no.

Preteen only really makes a difference if you live in CT. They pay a premium for them because its the only AR's they can get without restrictions.

Mine is an HBAR Sporter with an original Green Label box. No, mine does not have a "flaky" selector switch or and spring or clip junk. Just a good ole Green Label Pre-Ban Colt.
