How does this group look? Can you beat it?

Rodney Wagner 0.349 IBS Light Gun Record This is one of the most amazing feats of precision shooting ever recorded. In an IBS 600-yard Benchrest match today at the Piedmont range (Rutherfordton, NC), Forum member Rodney Wagner shot a 0.349; five-shot group at 600 yards. That smashes the existing 0.699; IBS Light Gun Record (and it’s way smaller than the NBRSA record as well).

Sure I can---at 100 yards. roflmao

I have a 0.18" three-shot group tacked to my bulletin board. It was fired in my .280 with an unlikely combination of components that never shot well again so I consider it a fluke and a curiosity.

Impressive! I'm not a group shooter very often (load development), but I can appreciate what he did. That is having every factor dialed in tight! Great rifle, absolutely perfect ammo, and a shooter that didn't screw it all up.

You forgot dealing with mirage and wind (or breeze, which seems to be most likely in this case), too. It just seems impossible, doesn't it?

I would suspect this was one of those dead calm days (had one last week on my place) and the lighting was just right to not have heavy mirage. Increase one or both of those factors, and it could all go to poop. Those dead calm, low mirage days are rare on my place.

Benchresters using SFP, and typically high magnification, probably pray for those types of conditions.

Hopefully Judd will show up here.

Typical of the BR setup I have seen in this neck of the woods. Didn't reveal a whole lot about his rifle, though, did he?

I woulda lettem rip quickly too, before the wind changes.

Agreed, not too much info about the rifle. Bout like leaving the hood closed at a street race.

I did a little digging.

Article about his reloading

I read where his rifle was stolen a month after the record. Good luck at the pawn shop with that.

Yeah, that happened last spring. That dude is part of the NC bunch that are 600y studs...he shoots with the guy I buy my barrels from.

Yes, they either run'em or are considered a picker (pick your condition and pick and choose when you shoot)... More times than not the runners win.

That improved 6br is one accurate round.

Not certain what you consider dead calm but wind was gusting to 10 mph when he shot this group.

Well, that dang sure ain't dead calm!

Him running his shots fast, he must have got a lull in the wind, in those seconds he used to send 5 rounds.

On one shot he had to adjust his aim 3 times.

Is under 20 seconds for 5 rounds fast. Don't think he was adjusting his scope turrets during that short period.

But then again, I ain't no professional.

What I'm curious about is how he weighed his rifle? Be safe. aim

What do you mean how he weighed his rifle? It's part of their rules and they have scales at the match. I think in the 600y game the weight limit for light gun is 17lbs and heavy guns are unlimited (some going as high as 50-80lbs). I'm sure you could find their rules to validate that comment on the web somewhere.

Was he just doing that for the video or is that how he shot the match? Doesn't look like he ever really aimed confused2
