AimPoint PRO (Patrol Rifle Optic) can be had for $400 and has a 3 year battery life

As stated, aimpoint. If being cheap, which I wouldn't if I was an officer, the Bushnell TRS or Sparc...

I am a big fan of Aimpoint for CQB. IMO Acog is heavy & over rated unless you intend on shooting longer distances.. If you plan on carrying a weapon for long periods of time, lighter is better & you can't beat backup iron sights only with a blue force gear sling.

So basically what I've told him already. He did mention the trijicon srs. Any info on it?

The trijicon srs is twice as much and can have halo issues in bright light without a killflash installed. I would go with aimpoint. If he wants to spend the $800, get the better aimpoint.

pro works but is bulky. I would spend the extra minimal coin and get one of the smaller ones

Have you looked in the vortex? Little larger than the aimpoint, more affordable
