Some of you get very bored easily. I've got more important things to worry about than the terms that people use to describe things. Well, youre sitting around posting on a hunting site on a beautiful Saturday afternoon just like the rest of us. I guess you don't have to many important things to worry about. And you're full of S if you are saying you don't have pet peeves.

I get nuts when I read about guys "running a platform." I think that means shooting a rifle.
Also saying "boolits" instead of bullets.
And saying "bullets" when they mean ammunition. Yep Yep And yep I don't reload, I actually thought boolits meant something particular when I first started reading it.

'Tack Driver' is a term that has been with us for a very long time, and was probably coined some time soon after rifled black powder firearms started to come into regular use. - Perhaps around the revolutionary war period, or soon thereafter.
There was considerable ingenuity in that era in setting up targets for a match. They used whatever they had on hand, including live animals, (turkey shoot) pieces of wood, scraps of paper, and so on. Whether tacks were deliberately set out as targets, of if some smart-alec shot the tack that held up a target is hard to say - but then as now, the rifle that could hit a really small target at distance was referred to as a tack driver.
I think too much is made of it being a cliche. This is all part of how we communicate. Everybody has at least an idea as to what is meant and more often than not, that is good enough.

Hate the term myself! I have some acquaintances who seem to think every gun they have is sub moa capable...another term i hate. I love it when people will post one small group at 100 yards, which tells them or me nothing unless it can be done consistently!

I find accuracy to be defined differently. What I will consider an accurate rifle and what I see others consider accurate are so vastly different it is shocking. I know some people that if they have a rifle that will shoot at or close to 1 moa to them it is a "tack driver" (that term drives me nuts). it is no different than the guy who shows up with his AR "sniper" rifle. This is likely why I avoid people as much as I can when shooting at the range. Then again at least they are out there practicing.

The only pet peeve I have is not trying to read 45Colt's post. That will drive you crazy!

There are tacks, and then there are tacks. If you can hit one these every shot at 100 yards, call it whatever you want.

I hate it when people dive head first into something for a week and suddenly know everything about it.
I call it a clip always have and don't see it changing any time soon. Modern guns, optics, ammo is much more consistent than it used to be, at least I believe it is and therefore accuracy should improve.

I know The first step is admitting you have a problem right? But, I have been hunting and shooting for 21 years, so not every opinion was learned last week on the internet.

I love it when people will post one small group at 100 yards, which tells them or me nothing unless it can be done consistently! I shoot antique and military surplus rifles that depending on the ammo used might only shoot 3 MOA on a good day, but occasionally pull off a little tiny group. My buddies and I refer to this as "a series of lucky misses" and not any kind of indicator of what the rifle (or shooter) can do. -ww
A thousand reasoned opinions never equal to one case of diving in and finding out.

I always heard that the term derived from some of the fun exhibition shooting the old Winchester rim fire trick shooting team used to do. If you have ever seen some of the 'artwork' they made it's pretty cool. I'm a decent shot but aint no way I'm that good.
