Hello everyone. I am new to hunting and this is my first season so forgive me if my question(s) sound ignorant.

Me, my immediate family and some friends want WhiteTail doe for meat. What would be a good and fair price to pay on an MLD land for a white tail doe (or even maybe an Axis)? My son has many food allergies and Venison is the only "Allergy Free" meat so I plan on feeding him that all year. Plus, I want to eat it too due to high protien. Also, would it be appropriate to negotiate a price on MLD land for multiple doe hunts if the owner has many tags left? Just thoughts please, not judgements.

Btw, I am in Dallas (Plano).

150-200 sounds about right for a WT doe but an Axis doe will likely cost you 300-400. It's no contest though in the taste of the meat. The Axis wins hands down. Just IMHO. Elk

150-250 but I would expect no more than 200 a head if your taking multiple deer. 300-450 on an axis doe but like said above there is no competition when it comes to taste. Axis are also much bigger and yield more meat.

Run through the classified in the paper, you will likely have to drive a ways, but we were able to put doe hunts together for 150-200 on nice mld places for several years in a row. If your looking to take several deer at once it will probably help you out as the biggest thing we had issues with was coordinating when to go because the owner didn't want to drive out there for one doe etc.

$150 - 200 for a Whitetail Doe? Where the heck is that? Maybe I need to stop looking on Craigslist. LoL. I had paid many places $300+ and on some I didnt even see jack rabbit. I am thinking of giving up beef/lamb and switching to Venison only. Please let me know if you know anyone who would do $150-200 for a WT Doe or $300 for Axis. I have never tried Axis. I dont mind driving 3-4 hours because I know everything I want will not be in 5 mile radius of my home.

I said $150 -$200 . Thats the most I would pay but it looks like the market price is more in most places .
I also agree that Axis doe is alot better than WT but I could never make my self to pay #3 to #400 for one , but I do understand they are selling for that much at auction . I would have to shop around ./

I'd say go from the opposite direction and figure out how much is too much for the meat. A larger sample size would be good, but the 4 does my son-in-law and I shot the past two years would average about 40 pounds meat-- everything trimmed and ground .

So, if you are willing to pay $7 per pound for processed meat (assuming you process yourself and don't add to the cost) you'd pay $280 for a doe. If you would pay $10 per pound final product, you'd be at $400. If the does you find are bigger than the ones I've seen, then the cost per pound goes down. I don't know what a doe would finish out in other areas of the state.

I would shoot one Red Deer Hind, prob solved all year or a nilgai cow, both very good eating

I would get in good with some processors. They will sell you unclaimed meat for the processing fee only (required by law for whitetail). I think if you explain your son's situation they would be glad to put you on the list. Cheaper that way too.

Here's a question - since the doe hunts that a lot of people look for are typically just for harvesting meat, would you be apposed to going out on a small piece of property (lets say 25 acres) and shooting a doe? Be it a BlackBuck, Axis or whatever... Since its just a "fill the freezer" kind of hunt. You get there, shoot and go home. Would the amount of acreage matter much?

Depends on who it is. Is it HF or LF? Is the hunter going to use a .223? A lot of differing opinions on the subject.

My archery hunts only need bout 25 yrd radias from tree stand, tis all about location .... Price of hunt is up ta individual...

For personal beliefs, I would like to hunt and eat. I appreciate everyone's help. A lot of people keep recommending Wendy Lou but they aint got any WT does.

I did an elk "shoot" (not a hunt) around Dallas for a cow elk. Was $600 for her, but she was kind of small (young and had some red deer mixed in). Sure tastes good though!

Those prices are pretty accurate unless you go 5 star lodge...For future reference, apply for a permit in one of the NF in ETX and go shoot one.

WT Doe I assume? Also, do you have Axis Doe? How much for that? I heard Axis tastes good. Last time I ate that was 25 years back when I went to visit India. Cant remember the taste but I recall enjoying it.
