I just got on a deer lease in the Northwest part of young county right next to Megargel. Does anybody know about this area? I'm hoping I didn't waste my money. There is a huge wheat field,some Cover, but there is a pond on the property. Will I be disappointed?

Whether or not you will be disappointed will depend on your expectations.

I hunt north of you in Archer county. I'd characterize my lease as having low deer density but it also has the potential for above average antler quality. There are some really nice bucks, just not a lot of deer. There seems to be a lot of hunting pressure which makes the deer more nocturnal than normal. Its not easy hunting, and I have a lot of hunts where I don't see a single deer, but this property provides a much better chance to take a buck over 140" than anywhere else I've leased.

If you're on or near one of the creeks you'll have better luck than without.
NW of town will be fairly bleak, east, south, north & north east much better.
In that area it doesn't take a lot of cover to have good luck. Hunt near the densest cover/travel paths.
The more acreage per hunter the better, there are quite a few small leases all over Young county, in those areas hunting can be almost impossible.

My ranch HQ is about 25+/- SE of there, I'm familiar with the area around Megargel.

How much many acres of cover is on your property and how much is around you that doesn't have other hunters?

I'm on a very small lease of 160 acres mostly wheat field and about 20 acres of rough/cover
and a big pond. But on the fence line the neighbors property there is a lot of Cover and across the dirt road. So I'm hoping the deer will come out of it and into my wheat field or into my pond. I have noticed some blinds a cross the dirt road.

With wheat water & 20 acres of rough cover you'll be fine. Find their travel paths, set up a feeder very near to the cover & travel path.

But, as soon as they notice unusual traffic in the area they'll eat wheat & whatever you supply at night to avoid the pressure.

Tuesday to Friday am hunting will be better than weekend.

I have a buddy that hunts 2000 acres west of mcgargel. He told me they have been struggling since the drought and don't have much in the way of quality or quantity. That being said, it's a great lease with a cool house and is lots of fun to hang out there
