I am sure this has been covered before. but I need to get a rifle shipped to South Carolina to a FFL. Went to post office yesterday and was told ok, bring it in and we can ship it for you. Brought it in this morning and now was told that the only ship FFL to FFL. Other options? UPS-Fed EX, take to local FFL?

They don't know their own rules.

I can tell you from personal experience that the clerks at USPS or any shipping agency can be real PITAs when shipping a firearm, even when the transaction is completely 100% legal. The postmaster told me to never tell them I am shipping a firearm and never have any sort of identifying marks on the outside of the package.

The DA's ALWAYS will tell that 'cause they can't READ their wn Rules...what you were told IS True...for a handgun.

Go look at the tutorial and complete explanation on GunBroker, on the right hand side of the home page, and YES...Print Out the USPS regs to take with you.

+ 1 on no external package markings, and address the pkg to the FFL owner or designated clerk using only his NAME and not the name of the store, along with the correct local address and your own address yadda yadda.

Going to try UPS on the way home, if that doesn't work I will be headed back to post office in the morning.

My understanding is that UPS stores will not ship firearms, you need to go to a Customer Center.

Try a FedEx store. Mailed one Monday took about five minutes. Mailed the same gun to the same location last summer thru the USPS took 4 hrs and had to make post master show me the regs. Even after talking to her boss she didn't believe it.

UPS took it with no issues and was $30 cheaper than USPS.
