Has anyone had a chance to play around with the LabRadar unit yet?

We'll have to run to Ozona one of these weekends when we have a chance.

Chad,

Are you satisfied with the Labradar?

I am considering one to replace an Oehler 35 to avoid the hassle of setting up the screens.

Yes, it is the best piece of reloading equipment I own. The only issue using it is if you are on a firing line with many other shooters shooting at the same time. For it to read the bullet speed, you have to arm it first. When you arm it, it is "listening for a bang" to send out the radar pulse to read the speed. If there are other shooters near you, it can send the pulse but there be no bullet there in your path, and it causes and error. You can mess with the sensitivity of the unit to help with this, but I have not messed with it.

I set mine to always on. It will start reading when it "sees" the bullet and had worked wel. But alliagnmet becomes much more important

Chad, am I better off waiting for my backordered labradar to get in, or would a magnetospeed v3 be a ok replacement?

Depends on how you plan to use the chrono. I can't use the magneto for how I shoot, so the LabRadar is what I need.

I just want it to verify a more consistant MV, ES, and SD. The photocell chronographs I have been using are annoying to set up.

I would think for the price difference, you would be better served with the Labradar. I've always seen the Magnetospeed being a very limited device (poor results with lead bullets, handguns, and pistols).

I called LabRadar and was told my unit will ship mid-April. Midway got their batch this week and they are already gone...probably filling back orders.

Is it accurate on smaller calibers, specifically .223 diameter? Early reports showed there could be problems.

223 work for me. You just can't get a distance as afar as bigger bullets

I've used the LabRadar for everything I shoot. It will easily pick up my 223 subs shooting 55 grain SP bullets. You have to change the setting to "handgun", since the speeds are in the handgun speed range.

Buddy said a fellow by the name of Litz said there could be a problem with .223 diameter. Probably had not used it as much or had less experience.

There are reports of issues. Not going to lie. I think it depends on bullet, placement in relation to the barrel, and lab settings. It had no issues with 77smk

I place the unit right next to the muzzle when testing subs suppressed, change the setting to handgun, and the sound to level 1. Works every time for subs. I tested my son's Tikka in 223 with 65 grain BTSP reading 2900-2950 fps. Had no issues with those either. I've had great results with mine.
