On facebok people are saying if a person wanted to Cerakote a friends gun they need to have an FFL. Is this correct?
I know our govt is overreaching but this would just be insane.

I don't claim to know all the ins and outs of FFL and ATF laws. I do know that to do certain types of work on guns you do in fact have to have a certain kind of FFL though. Think its some sort of FFL manufacturing license or something like that. Even something as simple as putting a trigger in a gun for someone is a grey area.

If the weapon is a SBR or has a silencer on it I would thing the person would have to be a FFL or be on the persons trust to have possession of the rifle. For anything else as long as the person isn't a felon I see no reason to require the person to be an FFL.

I was just about to post the same. You must be "in the business" of painting/refinishing guns to need a license. The ATF has said on several occasions doing something occasionally is not considered "in the business". So even if you were to charge for it, but didn't so it regularly, you are good to go. The same goes for buying a gun to refinish and resell.

My understanding was to take possession of someone else's firearm, to do anything to it, needed an FFL.
