I ended up with a real nice Mauser action rebarreled to 6mm Rem with fresh Ceracoat (dark titanium color I love) for a song.
The guy said it was too hard to find ammo for so he never finished the build.
So what say the guru's? Pass it on or finish the project?

First thing I would do is find out the best brass to make 6mm Rem brass from. If it is a common brass, run it.

This is, of course, if you hand load.

Better than the 243, if you have the right barrel twist. Surely you can find brass.

There's lots of 6mm Rem shooters out there. Right now, certain calibers are harder to find than others. If you can find brass, I can loading anything out there.

I love Rem's 6. But, on a Mauser a .240 Weatherby or 6mm-'06 makes more sense. Twisted fast for the high B.C.'s

You did what?

I only have a 6-284 because nice rifles in 6mm Remington are hard to come by and the 6-284 badically fell in my lap. Brass is not impossible to find, but it's not easy either. I believe you can neck down 7x57 to 6 Remington if push comes to shove.

Yep find some 257 Roberts or 7x57 brass and get to loading.

6mm rem is a handloaders round to see ultimate potential, and worth it. The best 6mm out there in my opinion and i have 2 custom 243's. It started off in wrong twist but anything faster than 1-10" is good medicine. Brass can be hard to find, but easy to load for. with right twist and load it will out run 243 win when getting out there.

Nope, not dead. Love the round even though I don't hand load. I have a Remmy 788 in 6mm and my brother has my very first deer rifle, a Remmy 700. Still have about 3 boxes of factory ammo. Got Chad to load me some in 80 Grain Barnes TTSX and split them with my brother. Got plenty to last many hunting seasons!

Mine's not dead, it will still put five shots where they need to be.

Thanks, it was almost great. My last shot took it from about .05 to .10 frown

Ha! I know how badly that fifth shot can treat a guy. Sometimes I want to just omit it.

Remington and hornady still make 6mm ammo. Easy to order online.

Buddy has two Mohawk 6mm's fine little guns.

I have an old Mohawk in 6mm. It's a shooter with 70 to 100 grain loads but likes the longer OL rounds. For some reason it hates Cor Lokt ammo. I hardly ever take it out of the safe any more as I quit reloading and the ammo I was buying for it is no longer available but the sentimental value of the rifle will keep with me until I die.

It's a Frankenstein rig. It started life as a Ruger M-77, then added parts:

Barrel is a Wiseman, made just after he bought McMillan Barrels from Pat McMillian. My brother worked there at the time and put a extra-special hand lapping to it.

McMillian stock, epoxy bedded, free float

The trigger is a Canjar set trigger. Normal pull about 1.5 lbs, when set I guess 1-2 oz.

Dan: Cool. I figured to shoot that well, either you are the best shot in Texas or your shooting stick wasn't something straight off the assembly line.

Ag Hunter 78: That barrel was actually made across the street from the Chicken Oil Co. in Bryan.

The 6mm can be a bit awkward in terms of cases or ammo, but it's not horribly painful like the .243 WSSM that I sold. I love my 6mm ( the rifle makes me happy smile ) even though it's obviously not the most practical of calibers.

I think the 6mm is easier to load for than the 243
