After two misses I think its time to check my setup at the range to make sure it is zeroed.

The ranch owner called me tonight and found it. The buzzards found it first about 200 yards from where I first shot at him grin

Still with a hit from a .308 it should have been DRT.

This is the nice thing about video. You get to really look at what is going on during the shot.

The first two shots didn't have sufficient lead to get a DRT sort of impact, and if there was an impact, it would have been way back on the coyote. Shot 2 really should have missed completely given that you were aimed at his butt and he was running left and that would mean that he wasn't there when the bullet arrived. Shots 3 and 4 were blind shots. Hard to question the ZERO when you don't have a target in the FOV when you pull the trigger. Shot 5 looked pretty good. You did well staying with him.

You may still be zero'd just fine. You just need to work on your lead if you are going to shoot moving targets. Better yet, give a whistle or a bark to get the coyote's attention so that he will stop and try to figure out what the sound is. Then you will have a nice, stationary target.

I go back and check zero when I miss a shot I think I should have made. It usually turns out that the scope is zero'd just fine and that the problem was with me.

I've been having the opposite problem lately. I can't seem to hit unless they are running and pipes are popping up everywhere... cry

Got a pic after the buzzards had their way with him. Was a young male. It was hit just in front of the hind leg. Not sure if it was the first or the last shot. But a dead yote is a good yote

I thought the first shot hit. The third and fourth were ill advised because he was not visible. That's just me though... In the end he's dead. up

The first and last shots hit him from what I can tell from the body and the review of the video. The first was in his butt, the second hit just behind the rib cage.

Like DNS stated. The nice thing about video is you can review and learn from the past. I learn a little each and every time I go out. And value these videos as one of the best educational tools. It truly eliminated the second guessing. And will help me master the art of running follow up shots on hogs and coyotes.

I highly recommend getting the best mini DVR you can get. And learn how to use it. That also takes some time to master.

I did take my rife to the range and it was shooting about 3" to the left at 100 yards. The first shot at the coyote was 80 yards and the last was at about 120.

DNS and I were talking about this last week. Apparently, neither of us has mastered recording yet as we both forgot to turn on our recorders on different hunts. At least the other one got footage. Recording seems simple until you do it. Seems there is always something that happens. I read where one guy stated a week or so back that he hunted too hard to record. I had to chuckle.

Recording is much more than making videos to share. You can slow them down to fractions of seconds and learn what actually happened. It has been a tremendous tool for me. It really lets you know where you need work. I don't leave home without it...

So I learned a new lesson on recording this past weekend. If something is different check that the DVR is recording. I somehow had the SD card eject and did not get any video of the hunt at all. hammer one more hard lesson learned.
