I wanted to order one of those inserts, but I don't do paypal and haven't been able to write a check to pay for it (long and uninteresting story). I kept thinking to myself that there has to be an easy way to make one of those without a lathe. It finally dawned on me this evening...a 5.7 x 28 FN case is just right. I chucked one up in a drill and turned its diameter down a little with sandpaper, the cut it to about the length of a .380 case and chamfered the mouth. Then I drilled out the primer pocket with a 3/16" drill. A couple of small pieces of scotch tape on the case made it fit the Chargemaster's drop tube snugly, and I'm in business.
It works.

Looked at several cases last year and didn't think about that one. Have plenty of those cases, will have to give it a try

I thought people were using straws to improve the CM's drop tube?

Reducing the diameter of the mouth of the drop tube works better than the straw trick.

Interesting. However, I have to admit that I have had very few issues with my CM. It's finicky every now and then, but that's about it.

I've had a few over charges but nothing bad. But now that I learned to under charge then trickle, I never have any problems.

It may depend on what powders you're using, some are more prone to overcharge than others.
If you watch the Chargemaster bumping the drop tube when it's trying to dump that last tenth of a grain, you can see it happening and WHY it's happening. The reduction insert puts a stop to that action.
Some guys say that it helps make the Chargemaster more precise. I can see why some may believe that but I'm not 100% convinced...but the fact that this will put a stop to those 1/10- and 2/10-grain overcharges makes my own reloading life a little better.

The inserts make a real difference. I personally know of at least 5 Chargemasters using them, and it has made a difference on every one of them.

I actually PMed the original designer on Sniper's Hide and copied his dementions with a piece of brass solid stock, in the lathe. Before the insert the Charge Master would overthrow half of the charges, with Varget, H-4350, and Retumbo (all cylindrical powders) after the insert it over throws 5%.
