I'm planting Chufa this spring and am trying to get some idea what to plant with it, does anybody have any experience or ideas?? I'm thinking I can't go wrong with crimson clover, if nothing else the clover with help improve the soil.

Any kind of cowpea or soybean is a good addition IME. Just adjust your mix on all seeds accordingly when you blend.

Hogs always go after my cowpeas, guess the'll do the same with chufa? I was planning on planting in a area where electric fence can be used, that would certainly solve the hog problem.

Yes, I think hogs will hit the chufa. I have used electric fencing on food plots for the last 20+ yrs to keep deer off so the plants get established well. I know of farmers who used it to keep hogs out of newly planted crops also.
Will you use the same plot for a fall food plot?

My understanding is..chufa planted in the spring will have some plot value that fall but the best value is the following spring

I was thinking chufa was mainly planted for turkey. Never planted any or seen any planted.. Are you planting for deer only or deer/turkey both?

Planting for turkey, but package info says deer will hit it as the tubers/nuts mature..which makes sense to me as deer will paw up radish and turnips.

I am sure they will once they learn what it is and figure out how to get to it. The hogs will probably destroy it if they ever get to it.

cheers Down back & around the creek always seen deer, plenty brows, oaks & such.. First put up PVC feeders, later ta timers... Deer hear the sound of spinner throwing corn... Later started pudding in food plot ta left of feeder... Deer find plot... Every year worked it up, see plenty of deer tracks, then bout time it start coming up, start seeing hog tracks, less deer tracks... Hogs will find it, just switched ta chooten hogs the wild game... Started seeing more deer & less hogs... They follow the creeks... flag
