If it did everything you wanted it to, and there isn't anything wrong with it, what makes another gun any better?

Took a lot of work to get it feeding 100%. Lots of internal work and polishing. When I was done could have bought better and saved money. That and the finish was pretty weak even being almost new when I got it.

That pretty much sums up my experience with my STI.

I also bought a RIA 1911 that required a ton of work and some new parts to get it working correctly. Some of the edges were so sharp they would cut your hand. I'd never buy another.

I have the Colt, Springfield, Kimber, Ruger, Remington and Desert Eagle. The DE is the best out of the box, they all needed trigger work and the Ruger needed a new trigger. The DE was the best fit and smoothest slide. If I had to choose only one to be left with it would the Desert Eagle. up

They are good, but in this price range they all need some help.

I had two. Tried a Les Baer SRP and the Wilsons were gone the next week.

Been very happy with the Baer ever since. It is by far my favorite pistol having owned and sold off a bunch through the years.

It has run flawlessly from round 1 and it not fussy about ammo either, which is nice.

To the OP, if this is your first 1911, take time to learn how to maintain and lube them, which is very important to good function. With a good understanding of how they work, a well made one is a joy. A poorly built one, or a good one not well maintained can be frustrating. You have to be committed to keeping it clean and lubed, or at least well lubed, for it to work properly. If you are not inclined to spend the time to learn the required minimum knowledge, then look at the plastic pistols. I have both, and both have their place, but they are very different pieces of gear.

Also mags are critical. Use Wilson or Tripp.

Did I mention about learning how to maintain it? wink

Here is a guide of the more readily available brands - all 1911's are not the same. "1911" is like saying "sports car," there are many different brands that have widely varying quality. The info is a bit dated, but still helpful.

Good luck with your decision.

Well then, it really didn't do everything it was intended too. Not if you had to spend a bunch of time and money to get it there.

I've owned 8 STI 1911's. A couple had issues, BUT I contacted them and they sent part. Problem fixed. They will make it right and there's no better customer service than STI imo.

If you can find a nice used one worth the money, that's my vote. I just sold one for close to your budget, so if your patient there are deals.

S&W makes a nice one, but doubt you can find one in your range. I just sold mine. It's nice but 1911's scratch and rust way too easy for me. My 1k gun would look like hammered dog poop of I put it through what my glocks go through. Hell mine was a safe queen and still managed to get scratches all over it. Idk how but it did. Love 1911's thinness and their triggers but there is no substitute for GLOCK just saying.

On my budget it would be ARMSCOR and Remington.

Springfield seems to be the majority, I have an XD and an XDS and love them both. I'm fine with that haha. Thanks everyone so far for your prompt responses.

Try for a springfeild loaded in your budget or a range officer, both are good guns.

Yup. Just starting to play with Glocks here, liking them the more I shoot and tinker with 'em. They seem to be plenty tough, accurate and reliable. Reasonably priced too. I still have an affection for my 1911's, though.

There site says "Starting cost of our base pistol is $3800.00 with one magazine."

I could by several old 70 series Colts for that.

Yeah, Sandy Strayer left STI(Strayer-Tripp Inc)to start SVI(Strayer Voigt Inc) in 1994.

That's like saying you can buy a truckload of Priuses for the same cost as one Lamborghini.
