Gonna be hunting a new lease with potential shots of 250-300 yards. Looking for any and all suggestions on a good scope. Will be shooting a .308.

It might help to know the rifle. Sticking a big scope on a light carry rifle is nasty and watching scope weight on a 12 lb rifle is pointless.

For hunting I love the Leupold vx3 2.5-8x36 fine duplex. The duplex should take you out close to 300 on the bottom hash mark on a 200y zero.

If you want something more versatile but only a little heavier, I like the Viper PST 2.5-10x44mm SFP.

Deep pockets, I like the vx6 line.

Cjconley- How much are you willing to spend on optics? Depending on your shooting experience too, you might want to consider a range finder as well.

Yes, definitely thought about range finder. I am very comfortable out to 200 yrds. Gonna need to stretch my comfort level out before start of season.

How much money are you wanting to spend on the scope?

ZEISS Terra 4-12x50 with RZ8 reticle is not very expensive

has hashmarks for distance up to 800 yds

good for hunting and banging steel and still be under $600

Zeiss terras really suck in low light. They are not the old conquest

Leupold, Nikon, Burris, or Vortex are good scopes for the price. I lean towards larger objective lenses like 50mm, this allows for higher levels of light gathering in low illumination conditions. Sometimes stores will carry combo deals with scopes & rangefinders.

You can get a Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14 for $300. If there's a better scope at that price, I don't know what it is.

Look through several different brands in your price range and get the one you see best out of. I don't see the need to go above 9X-10X maximum magnification.
