ET emailed me something about our little outing yesterday. This was my replyl

I don't count sheep. I count coveys. We started out with what I call 1 and
2 when Beckett pointed his first covey. Yeats had a second or sub-covey
just to the south. We checked the pipeline at the fence and made a U turn.
Both of your dogs busted their butts getting to the front. Cracker pointed
the third covey in the boggy area by the snipe pond. Beckett had part of
the covey up away. They got up out of shooting range. Beckett was soon on
the fourth covey which moved and he made a great relocation, where we had
a classic covey rise. Meanwhile, Yeats was on the fifth covey. on what I
called a Garmin find. I should have put Muffin out on that one. They got
up while Payson had his back turned. Continuing on, I proclaimed that there
could be as much as three coveys up toward the pens. Cracker pointed the
sixth covey as the words left my mouth. We went into the middle pasture and
Beckett pointed the seventh covey. We watched it down and went toward the
bush, but Cracker had eighth covey. Yeats pointed the ninth covey, and
Cracker made a little loop on her on. Beckett put the icing on the cake
with that tenth open field covey.

Beckett would have won first place, Yeats second and Cracker would have been
disqualified, if it had been any type of field trial.. The thing is Beckett
turned the corner.

I do something similar and all I hunt is woodcock.

I can already tell quail hunting is in my future as I turn slowly away from big game hunting to bird hunting.

Seems like it has been a good ride for you, Bill. Great people, great times, great dogs - all adds up to great memories.

You should take your GSP out to the next Corsicana NSTRA trial and run him on leftover quail after the Saturday trial, or better yet enter the amateur trial. I promise you that you will beat someone.

I promise I will think about it especially the putting her on the leftover quail just to let her have some fun. Thanks for the information.

Right now, hunting is personal to me and her. I sure like it that way. I think I would much rather keep it about just hunting.
