When we first got married, the Ruger Compact Magnum came out. I thought it was the perfect rifle- controlled feed, 20" barrel, iron sights, a perfectly balanced stock, and an ideal all around caliber (.308).

But I already had a good rifle, couldn't justify buying one, and they discontinued the 308 after 1 or 2 years of production. They dried up quickly and I figured I'd never see one. I played with one at Cabelas, but it was in their oddball RCM chambering.

Fast forward to last week when out of nowhere one appeared on Gunbroker in .308 at a reasonable price. I went back and forth on whether or not to buy it, but finally decided to go ahead. When I logged in to buy it, the rifle had been sold. I was bummed, moped around for a couple days, then forgot about it.

Then my wife asked me to go to the safe tonight to get her another book of checks. An sitting there, somehow, was the rifle. I'm still scraping my jaw up off the floor. She may be a keeper...

Awesome. Looks like it's in great condition.
Does your wife have a sister?

It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

That's great. My wife has done similar. Did she buy the same one you were looking at?

My wife pulled something similar. Before we got married, I was looking at buying a S&W 460XVR. I had called BP and they had one in stock. I went a few days later to look at it and it was gone. Guy said they had one in order but it was coming from the west coast and that one had already been purchased, but said that I could look at it before the lady that bought it picked it up. So I gave him my number to call when it came in and I walked away. I made it to the exit before the little voice in my head said I should do some digging. I asked him, what did this lady say she wanted such a big pistol for? He responded with, she saw her husband looking at it online last week and thought it would be a great wedding present. Huh, you don't say woot

Love that gun to this day!

Isn't it great to have a good woman? My wife, girlfriend at the time, purchased me a brand new Remington 700 BDL in .30-06. Over 31 years now, I am blessed to still have both.

My wife bought me a safe, Remington. It came with a free stainless 22. When it came time to deliver the safe she had to take me to BP to sign for the 22, she is from England and couldn't sign for it.

My wife would barely know the difference between a rifle and a handgun and it's not bc I haven't tried to teach her about guns.

Took it out for a quick range session. At 50 yds, no coke can was safe.

Life ain't fair......seriously, congrats. Cool story. She knew what it meant to you.
