I bought my son a Rossi Youth in .243. This one came with a scope but I don't think they do that any longer. At first, the gun shot terrible. I would get it zeroed and then the zero would wander. I realized the hammer spur was striking the bottom of the scope. I moved the scope back slightly and it would group pretty well, about 3 MOA as long as the barrel was cold.
I finally put a better scope on it and now it shoots very well. About 1 to 1 1/2" with a cold barrel. It shoots so good that my son still uses it, and he is now an adult. He's not a big man anyway and he loves how short and handy it is in a cramped blind. It's also a pleasure to carry all day, being so light. I think the trigger has gotten better also to due to him doing dry firing practice.

When I was a kid I used a 30-30. It was the only gun we owned. With my children they started hunting with a 22-250. Now they shoot either 7mm-08, 257 bob or my 6.5 creedmore.

I sure like suppressed rifles for my 9 yr old. Especially 308. No kick. No sound.
