I'm looking at a new load. Thinking Barnes TSX Tipped. Deer mainly, some yotes, a few cats. Also maybe the seldom seen piggy around here. Looking for speed and penetration. Ranges inside 300 yds, majority around 200. Caliber is .308. I know the 150 and 308 work well but what about the 130 tipped? Any experience with it?

When I shot a 24" bolt action .308 all the time 165 SGK spire point is the lightest bullet I ever used. I did shoot a buck and many coyotes with it. It ALWAYS worked well. Now I'm running a 155 gr TMK in the 16" gas gun, and it is making 2600 fps, MV. Depending on your barrel length, let's say yours is 24", I would not be shocked if the bolt action got the 155 gr to go 2750+
.4 or .5 MIL at 200 yards from a 100 yard zero. .8 to 1.2 at 300 yards.

Why consider an all copper expensive bullet for deer? Just curious. Deer are thin skinned easy to kill with any cup and core bullets that are easier to get to shoot well and less copper fouling and cheaper. I would suggest something along these lines if you want penetration. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/1482253...point-boat-tail

I'd think that the 130 gr bullet would get your 308 to a MV about that of a 270. Nothing wrong with that. And with shots of 300 yards or less, BC doesn't matter much. That isn't the bullet I'd choose, but it isn't my choice.

I might get a box of the 130's and do a ladder work up. Who know's, maybe my rifle won't like them and question is moot. I could try them in my 300BO also. Trying something (that's safe) is half the fun of shooting.
