And that is not all. The folks at Colt were blown away (and admittedly surprised) about how much buzz and excitement came from the announcement of the 1903 at last years SHOT Show. We were told that the excitement was so great that the Colt Custom Shop has been told to start building Pythons. That is right, Colt is building Pythons. Apparently there are walls full of original parts, and all of the original tooling is still warehoused. But it is more complicated than just dusting off the old equipment. This is antiquated stuff compared to today’s CNC machines. Also, Pythons were all hand fitted and tuned in a labor-intensive process. Our source said the Custom Shop is working on the Python build now. As of this writing, there is nothing official about the announcement, and no target delivery dates or any information on how many they’ll make

No Tax Stamp Required: the MIC-RONI-STAB

If the idea of a Glock-based short-barreled rifle or SBR has never crossed your mind, Command Arms Accessories, CAA, has a new version of the RONI SBR conversion kit that may make you think again. New for 2016, CAA has an updated version of the RONI, the Micro, and a non-NFA pistol version with an integral stabilizing brace, the MIC-RONI-STAB.

The RONI kits are constructed of polymer and aluminum and mount on Glock pistols to provide a rail for optics as well as add a stock or pistol stabilizer, along with a few other features common to carbines, not handguns. They require no modification to you your Glock pistols and install in a matter of seconds. The Return of the Browning Sweet 16 –SHOT Show 2016

We all have that gun from our youth that left a lasting impression. For me growing up quail hunting on a farm in Arkansas it was the Browning Sweet Sixteen. Most of the boys my age were using single shot shotguns, but the gentleman who would often supervise us on our hunts would be caring the iconic Browning Sweet Sixteen. This gun seems to always be on the right side of the compromise that it was, it carried like a 20gauge but hit like a 12 gauge. As you can imagine, these guns were always out of reach price-wise. When I got to the point in my life where I could add one to my collection, they all had turned into collectors’ items

Now everyone who has ever wanted a classic Sweet 16 has a new reason to celebrate. This being 2016, Browning is updating their A5 to the classic caliber. This is a decidedly sweet gun, and one of the high points of SHOT Show 2016.

Browning is turning heads with their new A5 line-up, and this is one of the best looking yet. It clearly has the family resemblance of the original but it is not your grandpa’s shotgun. This is a modern, fast cycling, soft shooting, recoil operated auto-loader. This gun is built on a smaller, lighter receiver that has reduced the weight and it feels thinner in your hands.

When I finally got to the front of the line to shoot this gun at Range Day, I could not believe that this was a 28 inch, 16 gauge shotgun. It clearly felt and swung like a light 20 gauge auto-loader. Weighing in at 5 lbs. 13 oz. this 16 gauge was so mild I could have kept it up all day, had they not told me to let someone else have a turn on their gun and their ammunition.

The gun is every bit as good-looking as it is a good shooter. It features a walnut stock with a brass bead front sight, the classic hump back receiver, and gold accents on the trigger and other key parts of the gun. It also features the Invector-DS choke tubes. This beautiful gun is just begging to be run hard.

The MSRP is $1699.99 and is available at a Browning dealer near you. At that price, some will treat this as a collector’s item, but it is every bit the workhorse that the original was. Those are collected because they worked so well, not because they were made with artificial scarcity in mind. I think the new Sweet 16 lives up to the potential of the original.

That Sweet 16 has me wishing hard you could get 16 gauge ammo at a decent price. Hard to justify at 2x the cost of a running a 12.

Kind of wanting that RONI for my G17. It'd be stupid, but cheaper than building a 9mm AR pistol.

My wife has an original one, came down from her Dad, don't know where/how he got it.

I'd love to have a python and a 1903/1908.

I was told Colt sold the tooling for making pythons, and no longer had anyone trained to tune a python any longer.

I love Colt, but they never seem to miss an opportunity to make a bad business decision. I'll believe it when I see it, and IF it does happen, is there really a market for a new EXPENSIVE revolver? Those 1903 pistols were $1K+ An original 1903 sells well below that price. I'm interested, but will not be a buyer.

Colt is finally coming to its senses, belatedly realizing that only producing arms that the patent has run out on - is not going to be a money-maker.

So now we see Colt bringing back some of the golden oldies that made them famous in years past.

People will be saying, "Hey, Colt is back!"

Some of us are lucky. I received a new Sweet 16 back in 1958 and almost sold it in the mid 70s when ammo became so hard to find. I remember Rays Hardware in Dallas was one of few places you could buy 16 ga ammo. I also have a Colt 1903 in .32acp with factory nickle plating that granddad carried during his beverage selling days. I lucked into a Python snubby. FiL gave me a 1911 Ithaca that had been used in military matches and also gave me a Winnie 94 in .45 Colt.

I've got one of the original Belgium made Browning 16's. My Grandmother had bought it for my Dad and he gave it to me when I was a teenager. It's not real pretty anymore but it still shoots like it did long years ago.

I'm not going to get my hopes up. Have heard numerous rumors over the years that Colt was bringing Python's, Detective Special's and Cobra's back. None were true.

I don't get why someone would go through the trouble of sbr'ing the top model.
