Anyone ever ordered a custom truck? Benefits? Experience?

How does it work? Pay up front or in delivery? How long did it take?

Thanks

Looked at the dodges but did not care for the interior

I think the Cummings is better than duramax but the Allison is better than the stock dodge transmission

I'm a lifelong Chevy owner, but bought my 2014 Ram 2500 because of the interior, love that cattle brown/black. smile

I've never done it, but I would think custom ordering a truck gives you less negotiating ability. On the Rams last year, it was really Laramie Longhorn or Limited. There wasn't much individual option picking. The only thing I didn't get I wish I did and can't add are power folding mirrors. I would think the $ you would save by negotiating hard on an on-the-lot truck would be good $ towards some aftermarket mods allowing you to overall end up better.

Good luck!

I wonder if negation a are hurt...

To me the truck would sit on the lot for a very short time. Pretty much as long as the dealer need

Some packages are more appealing where pricing is concerned.

Added options in lower based packages tend to add up substantially.

A lot of times the dealer can find your options on another lot and do a dealer trade.

Cleric,
I will answer any question you have bud.
Normally a build would take between 5-8 weeks depending on order date.
I'm generally able to find most all trucks and we go pretty much wherever to get it.
I can also do everything over the phone and have the truck delivered to you.
Were part of the Sports mans Auto Network.

In 2011 I searched coast to coast and could not find what I wanted on a lot. Had a local metromess dealer look as well. Nothing. Had them price out what I wanted. They actually laughed at my offer. Said it was impossible for any dealer to go that low. I left and by recommendation from a colleague contacted "Junior" at Vernon Ford (http://www.vernonautogroup.com). He's still there today. He calls/emails/texts every once in a while to say hi. Real nice guy. Anyway he got $1500 below what the other dealer laughed at. So I ordered. I believe I put down some earnest money. If I recall correctly it took about 3 months but was worth it in the end. Got exactly what I wanted. The small town dealer's savings was well worth the 8 hour round trip to pick it up. Balance is due on delivery.

Compared to a ford or mega dodge. But Chevy usually rides better stock.

Can't go wrong with any of them any more... There will always be Friday built trucks

I have ordered several. I have also been given the exact same rebates etc. that were available on trucks at the time I ordered it. If they want to make a sale they will do it and not try to gouge you.

I had to put down $500 bucks every time and delivery has run about 6 weeks.

You can't get an 8 foot bed with the mega cab. Given that I don't seat in the back they get what they get smile

That's why I don't have a Ram. The ford dash looks like poo to me.

But you can get an 8 foot bed put on one. grin All it takes is about 10k, and your good to go.

oh, and with as technical as you are, I figured you would at least known the difference between Cummings and Cummins. roflmao

So I type on an iPhone... Bite me

The back seat on the new mega was sufficient enough. I don't need no mega cab, although they did have a slick storage behind the seat.

The Chevy interior is far better than the dodge imo

roflmao just giving you a hard time.

You can modify the crew cab's back seat to where you can use the empty space behind it. My 2011 will fit a full sized rifle behind there with a simple mod to the back of the seat.
