Ok I've had this gun since I was a teenager. Great gun. Kinda wanting to do some upgrading. What would yall do to it if anything. Need a new scope so I figured I would some other things. What would yall recommend. Or just focus my efforts on another gun!

If you're using windage-adjustable mounts, dump them and get a set of Dual Dovetail mounts and rings. A new upgraded scope deserves it.

a good coat of johnson's paste wax
on the wood and eezox for the metal
is about what i'd do other than a
new leupold and continuing to enjoy it.

I have no idea if you're the kind of guy who enjoys to tinker but I've had this idea recently to buy a semi inletted stock, install crossbolts, install pillars, bed action and hand finish it. I'm attached to my action and just thought it would be a funny project. That and some hand loaded rounds I think would make a good gun even if it would be the most accurate or whatever.

I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

That sounds like a great project, K Red. up

I like my Mod. 70 (.270 Win.) more the longer I have it. All I did is add Talley rings and a Swaro and developed some handloads it REALLY likes. OUTSTANDING rifle.

How's the trigger? If it's not perfect, put a good trigger in it.

One piece base.

Bomb proof rings to go with the new scope.

Do you hand load? If not, consider getting the press, dies, trimmer, scales, and trickler. Hand loads can mean the difference in a decent shooting rifle and a tack driver.

FiremanJG, I don't load but have seriously thinking about getting into it. As I start to shoot further and further. Seem like it would be good to learn. Need to come and take one of your courses! It's on my list. What trigger would you recommend? Gun has a ton of sentimental value so I will be keeping it for ever!

Cabo, thanks for the pointers gonna look into a stock ASAP.

The original Model 70 trigger is fine and can be adjusted to give a very nice pull. Unless it's been buggered up, I wouldn't replace it. I'd consider a new spring for it from Ernie the Gunsmith, though.

Don't replace it if it doesn't need it. I'd look at RiveRider's post. If the trigger has no creep, and breaks clean, the only thing to gain is reduced poundage, if it is heavier than you like.

Model 70 triggers are simple and built like a tank. No way would I change it out for an enclosed style trigger. I would put it in a Mcmillan or Legendary Arms stock (Mark Bansners), have the barreled action ceramic coated, put in dual dovetailed rings and bases, install a quality scope and go forth and fill an ark with game.

You did what?

The trigger feels pretty good actually. Think I'll take the above advice. Thanks guys. Come through as always.
