Greetings,

So I am traditionally a gun guy. I am looking at getting a bow and have found a used one that I think will work for a first box.

Here is the bump in the road I cant work out on my own. The max draw length of the bow i have found is 30". My draw length in 38". How big of a deal is it on the draw length?

form what I have found there really isn't any off the shelf compound bows that will fit me.

I just need a little help. Thanks for any help you can give.

Are you over 9' tall? Did you get measured at a shop for your DL, or how did you find out you had a DL of that length?

DL is a huge deal, because if you are too short, problems. Too long, major problems.

I would tell you to find the nearest pro shop, not a box store, have have your DL checked. Most good bows are DL specifics,i.e., 28" is just that, 28". After you get measured, go from there.

I've been bow hunting since the 1970's, and worked at a pro shop on and off for several years, and the longest DL I can remember was 33", and that guy was about 6'7" and have ape arms.

The longest draw I have measured is 34 inches, he is 6'11" with a wing span of 7'1". Budget constraints we put him in a 32 inch bow with a longer than usual D-Loop. Not ideal but the man can shoot it well. Had a lady in last week that had said the bow guy at academy measured her at a 35 inch draw, 27 fit her perfectly.

Go to a shop and get measured.

38" draw! scratch
Unless you are really 10 foot tall I bet there is a bow out there that fits you.

you don't need a bow, just stand in the woods like a tree and when a deer comes by grab him and snap his neck like a twig.
