I am looking for a lease to hung starting this 2016 season, however they are very expensive. I'm looking into Hunting Public Land but I can't find some specific questions I have. I was hoping someone will be able to help me out.

Once I get all the proper permit and select a place that they might have available, do they assigned me a spot? If so approx how many acre and how long is that spot assigned to me for? During the season or just for one hunt?

Any advise on this will be great. I'm looking for a place to hunt deer and hogs.

Thanks

Depends on which property. Each location usually has a website and rules posted(Example COE, etc)

Donate to TX Youth hunting program.... better to donate then to waste it in taxes

Welcome to the Forum!! As BOBO mentioned each place will have a page on the Texas Parks and Wildlife website with rules. Some require a permit some do not. Typically National Forrest do NOT require a permit, like Davy Crockett National Forrest. Read the rules make sure you have the proper hunter orange and go hunt, first come first serve.

Other areas require permits like Wildlife Management Areas. You can buy an Annual Public Hunting Permit at any place that sells hunting license. The Texas Parks & Wildlife will mail you a book with rules/regulation and maps for each WMA. They are also first come first serve. At times you'll run into a lot of other hunters sometimes not so much. Do your homework(scouting) go hunt and enjoy..

With just the APH permit (Annual Public Hunting), you will get a booklet with maps of all the places you can hunt with that permit and will list the game you can hunt and the dates on which you can hunt. You can hunt any and all within those boundaries. On NF, you don't need the AHP permit, but keep in mind, some areas inside the NF are considered WMA's and you will need the AHP. Then you have the draw hunts. On these hunts, if you get selected, then you will be assigned a stand or a compartment to hunt and it will be on a certain date. Corp land may do it a little different. You would have to search and read up on their rules. But other than that, you can hunt pretty much any where you want and any time you want as long it's during the season listed for that particular area.
