I am an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman whom spends as much time as I can outdoors. I have also worked in physical therapy for 10 years know. I have been doing a self study to see how many hunters and fisherman experience low back pain or discomfort with long periods of sitting in the stand, blind, etc. Please take the poll.

Does your low back pain cause discomfort or limit the amount of time seated during your hunt.

'Glad you got the poll going.

My lower back pain started up again when I was loading all the CRAP I took out to the lease. I try to slow down and take it easy when loading up, but everybody is in such a hurry to blast outta there, I guess the herd instinct takes over. Why does everyone always act like there's a fire when it's time to pack up and head home? Maybe it's just my affect on people.

Me personally after sitting for a long period of time my low back hurts and causes me to have to change positions regularly. The root of my back pain is an injury to my L5 so I have to make sure I do my back and core exercises to maintain a good foundation for my vertebral column. Sometimes after sitting for a long time alot of low back pain comes from postural changes due to muscle weakness and increased pressure through the sacral region.

Not sure if my vote should count. I have had back surgeries that were not able to take care of all my back problems. As the surgeon told me the last time I went to him, said that he wouldn't touch my back again as I had too many problems. My back was wore out from too many years in the oilfield as well as some degenerative problems. But, I have good days and bad days but 9:30 is about all I can take on a morning hunt and sometimes the walk back to the truck is a chore.

I have discomfort in my lower back but it doesn't seem to effect my time in the stand.

My back pain is self-inflicted by loading too much (feed, gear, game) too fast. I'm going to start taking a back brace like I wore in my lumberyard days to the ranch.

cheers Before i hit 40 my back problems started... Foundry work, 10 thours a day down in a hole shoveling, laddle liner, driving fork that's sitting down, but it was mostly from the hating when hiltting bumps... Bull pusher, bending over a box picking up chill & steal from 5# onup ta 50+# couldn't use your legs... Then got set up job uout thar, 10 hours of cleaning up sand system again, & shoveling slag down in the hole... Thar were days 16-upta 20 hours, 1 day clicked in and it was a full 24 hours of clean- up... Getting up at two in morning some times wife had ta help pudding on sox & shoes, twas so sore... In me first break go see company doc, beaten pad, & back for more exercise, cleaning up or what ever... Finaly swallowed pride ta see a specialist, he said got the back of an 80 yr old... Companies always complain bout bad times, cost of insurance & stuff... Yagh, ya don't have ta have fancy Tittle ta know when ya be hurten, your body will tells ya.... When back starts ta flair up, i stand up lean side ta side, twas buying the Equate pills by the bottle, ta take the equation out of the problem, till heard it can cause other problems.... Usualy just cowboyup tried workmans comp, can't go inta details, bang dang lawyers, oh, one physical theropist said cowboyboots cause back problems also... That's why i enjoyed Sneaky's thread, bout exercising, keeping in shape... This supose ta be a poll, & here i'm rambling on... rofl it probley go missing... flag Edit: cheers were here for ya, as pappy once said: would rather be hunting than working, but a wise person realizes by working can aford ta hunt .... My theropy after a days work was enjoying, time spent outdoors.... flag

My knees bother me more on stand than my back. I have to stand up about once an hour because they start feeling locked up. I've had bad knees and shoulders since I was 15 from football, baseball, weight lifting, etc and now have arthritis in all my major joints. My back though has never really bothered me.

I had extreme low back pain for years. Couldn't find a doctor to fix it. Finally tried a chiropractor, and after 6 months of treatment, I was fine. As I get older, I'm getting less flexible, so I need to stretch to stay pain free.

Yup. I had microdiscectomy surgery last week to repair a re-ruptured disc.

I already feel much much better with NO pain in my butt, hamstring or leg.

So i am hoping I get some of my feeling back on n my leg.

While hunting I have to stand up and move around every 15-20 min or my back will start to cramp up. My problems are from poor posture at work. I see chiropractor and massage therapist on a monthly basis. I have had these problems for the last several years and won't go away. Last summer my left hand started going numb/cold and does so every so often. I don't load up heavy gear at all anymore and I now can take a supervisory roll which isn't all bad.

Work outs prevent lower back pain. My problem is the cramps associated with statins. CO Q10 resolves most of it but long periods of sitting in a fixed position can still bring them on and they are bad

This season I spent some money on a new chair that did wonders for me. No back pain at all sitting for 6 hours in the deer blind.

They have a swivel chair version too.

I got rid of my lower back pain when I got my tilted pelvis dealt with but I still have problems with my hip due to the tendon wanting to shorten up. I went too long before getting things figured out.

I like to park several hundred yards from the stand because the walk loosens me up after the sit.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.
