Now that I have settled on the perfect gun for my needs I need to upgrade to night sights since that is about all you can do to these guns to upgrade.
Mepro night sights vs XS 24/7 sights
these are 2 totally different types of set ups the Mepro are the std 2 dots for the rear and 1 dot front sight while the XS has a line only on the rear with a big dot on the front.
After watching a few videos these XS sights seem to be very quick acquisition and I am leaning towards them being for the purpose of conceal carry. I am not worried about shooting at long distances since I cant hit anything long distance anyways. That is what an AR is for.
What say the THF gun fellas!!?? Any one using these at the moment

I used to have a glock 22 with the XS sights on it and personally I was not a fan of them at all. When I did a lot of research on night sights for my G26 I looked at the meprolights and read lots of really good reviews so I dont think you could go wrong with those. I almost got them but ended up going with the Trijicon HD night sights with the U-notch rear sight and the orange outlined front sight. All 3 dots glow green in the dark. They are my favorite night sights so far.

Night sights are useless IMO. You aren't going to have time to aim if you ever have to use it.

The XS is the only night sight I have used (used to work there). The Big dot is the fastest sight to acquire out there. If you paste the dot center mass at gunfight range and pull the trigger, you will put a bullet in the bad guy. Most people are hung up on "precision" so don't like the fact that the sight covers a lot of target and may hinder accuracy to a degree. It all boils down to if you are interested in getting off the first good shot or if you feel the need to put the shot in a small area. A fraction of a second could make a big difference in the outcome of a fight.
Those are my thoughts and ideas, your may vary.

What's the point in night sights? I've never replaced my sights for night sights and I work at night, my duty gun just has a white front dot. My dad does like a front fiber optic sight, but he's 63 and it helps his eyes locate the sight, but then again that's during the day 99.9% of the time.

Night sights are useless IMO. You aren't going to have time to aim if you ever have to use it. Not totally. While I agree with you in premise, I disagree in action. Most defensive encounters occur within 3 meters and closer (which is why you should train with your carry piece at close ranges). In a dimly lit scenario, tritium sights can prove beneficial, but like you state, aiming will be problematic. This is why on my carry pieces I only have a tritium front sight dot. With practiced fundamentals and front dot alignment on the bad guy, I'm more than likely going to achieve good hits, especially at the close ranges expected in this type of encounter. So I agree with the night sight theory, but only for the front dot. And any quality tritium dot should suffice.

I had read all the stuff about the XS 24/7 Big Dots, so I bought a set for my G-19. I shot them for about a year, I never could really get used to them. I wanted them to work, but they just wouldn't do it for me. I ended up pulling them off and selling them, went back to the factory sights. I think the idea of just going with a tritium front is a good idea.

What say the THF gun fellas!!?? Any one using these at the moment I like the Big Dot sight and have it on my 1911 but I never did like the rear 'V' sight, so I ended up keeping the front big dot (love it) and putting my Mepro rear sight back in place. I filed the 'U' notch out a bit wider to allow a good view of the front sight and it has served me well. The big dot front sight DOES cover up a lot of your target at longer ranges (25+ yds.) but the odds of me getting into a defensive situation at that distance is small. I practice at that distance (and beyond)...but switch to a 'Six 'O Clock' sight picture. The large front dot really pulls your eye to it, just no way you won't see it at least as a ghost picture. At close distances (10 yds. and under) I simply look for the front sight, press, then front sight, press! Good hits are pretty much always the result.

A front sight that you can pick up easily and then practice, practice, practice.

Tried the big dots, the are good for up close and fast but I prefer regular sights over them. My main carry gun is a Gen 3 G19. I run the Ameriglo Hackathorns.. I have a several other sets for the gun but these work great. I hate 3 dot night sights personally. I run Heine straight 8s on my 1911 http://www.brownells.com/handgun-parts/s...-prod70540.aspx

The mepro's seem to get the best reviews from the HK fanboys. The trijicon HD"S I like because of the the option of the yellow or orange front sight but when you get a lot of opinions of HD's vs Mepros the Mepros seem to have more of fan base plus they are a lot cheaper.
I really like the idea of a colored or oversize front sight. That just makes a lot of sense to me.

I have used both regular night sights and XS sights. Accuracy was the same with both for me but the XS sights were definitely faster to acquire and to get back on target after firing.

Used to have XS Big Dot's on the 3 of my guns, they have been replaced by what I can consider the best sights for me. Warren Tactical single night sight dot, Sevigny in the rear.

I'm a big fan of fiber optics. I think the TruGlo resin overmolds are the best out there for immediate acquisition.

Not a fan of the big dot/xs sights. I'd get a good set of tritium sights.

Not a fan of the big dot/xs sights. I'd get a good set of tritium sights. The 'Big Dot' I have is also a tritium sight (tritium center surrounded by large white dot). Another thing I like about it...is that any decent amount of light (under low light conditions) really makes the white front sight stand out. When I was younger....I don't suppose I would have cared, but at 61 my aging eyes appreciate the larger sight and how visible it seems even when not trying to focus on seeing it. I know its not for everyone...but on a defensive gun..I think it makes good sense. I would also consider Fiber Optic but a lot of the sights I've seen available look kind of flimsy in construction.

Let me clarify: a decent set of notch and post tritium sights.

Let me clarify: a decent set of notch and post tritium sights. ^^^^^^^^ Agree with notch and post (for my purposes). That is why I kept the Big Dot front and reinstalled my Mepro rear sight (notch). I just filed it out wider. It makes a good combination for me. I really wanted to find a way to keep the large front sight. For me, it stands out so prominently...as to almost be impossible not to notice. Also, in low light conditions...very little light is necessary for that big white dot to show up, I like that.

I prefer just regular night sights. After having Trijicon night sights put on most of my handguns, I cant imagine why you wouldnt want them. Even if they dont help, they certainly dont hurt.
