Is it possible to convert a .17 mach ll to another caliber? If so what calibers can I go to and how hard would it be to do? Rifle is a savage mark ll.
Thanks in advance

Thanks, it was a little help but mostly gibberish to me. If possible, ideally I would like to make it a .17 hmr or wsm.

What gun do you have that is chambered in 17 Mach II?

Most of those are on a Long Rifle action where the others are on a 22mag action.

Easiest change I know of is to make a 17 Mach II into something else is to either replace the barrel with a 22lr or have the barrel rebored to 22lr.

Hornady and CCI sure have dropped the ball on those of us that have rifles in that chambering by getting us hooked on it then stopping letting us enjoy shooting them.

probably not going to happen with a savage, but you could buy a CZ 455 and have a .17mach II, .22lr, .17hmr, and .22 mag all on the same action.......

That is a shame too, as 17 Mach II is a very interesting and useful cartridge.

I think that they dropped the ball by not promoting it as well as they should have.

Kind regards, charlesb

Yes they did drop the ball on it, have a CZ 452 and it is the most accurate rimfire I have ever owned. Just cannot shoot it much anymore since the ammo is so scarce.

For a Mark II, I'd try giving Savage a call, explain about the ammo situation, and see what they would charge to rebarrel it for 22lr.

Those are great guns, they have a very good reputation.
