If someone wanted to learn how to make a knife is there a good starting point, i.e. book? Ive been reading internet guides like this one, http://www.artofmanliness.com/2013/07/18/how-to-make-a-knife-from-an-old-saw-blade/ ,but dont know good advice from bad. Id like to do this as a hobby it seems like a hobby id enjoy learning. I know to most of yall this is more than a hobby and im not looking for trade secrets or to be competition, just another way to get some satisfaction.

And if someone can tell me what the appropriate angle is to sharpen your knife that would be very appreciated.

Also, Google is your friend here. To begin you'll want to be versed on the basics of steel selection for knives & tools, proper heat treatment of those steels, and the mechanics of blade design & grinding. There are plenty of videos on YouTube showing the latter. Study the "classic" designs and note the details. When you decide to make your first blade, do something small & simple. After you've made a few you can visit the shop of a maker and get some feedback on how to improve. That's my advice - hope it helps.<<

Yeah, that post from the Count is full of important info, without a lot of the internet jibberish that's hard to sort out from the real information.
