I think it turned out pretty well. I hunted nearly every weekend inc bow season and it was tough.. never saw any action, no bucks chasing does, nothing ever at the feeders, no action at all. I guess it was probably a few weeks in and after sitting in my blind for a couple hours and getting ready to pack up, out of the corner of my eye I saw movement along the bottom of the hill. I got on him with my eyes but couldnt really id the buck as it was uphill behind him and full of brush, all I could tell was he had dark horns. I felt in my gut it was the one I was after. Got on him with the scope and figrued he was about 250 out and he was in perfect position. I broke one of the top 5 rules in that I wasnt 100% sure of my target, but I pulled the trigger and watched him dive into the brush. I new I got him in the sweet spot cause they always do that little jump/toe touch jig. Got over to him and realized it wasnt the one I was after. Felt bad cause he was a nice 8 pointer but not nearly big enough to shoot, but he made some good sausage anyway...I set up to have him shoulder mounted as I said I was going to mount everyone I shot at my place...



So I laid low for a couple weekends, then hit it hard again the last few and on the 2nd to last day of hunting season I got the one I was after. About 6 does at the feeder all morning, bout ready to call it quits. Started packing up all my crap and glanced up and there he was. What followed was a cluster of fumbling around, trying to find my ears, trying to get into position and all the while shaking like crazy, I have never done that before but it was a trip...Anyway, by the time I got on him he was perfectly broadside about 200 yrds out and I pulled the trigger without even really thinking about it...he hit the dirst about 20 yrds away...




So I get him to the processor the next evening and swap out my first kill for this one and turn the other into a horn mout for my boys room..

Later that night, my brother in law and my nephew and I sat in my truck on a feeder as it was raining and he got this little buck, his first deer ever!! He stayed on him like a pro until he had the shot and just before he pulled it got dead quite in the truck. BOOM and the deer dropped where he stood. Shot him with a youth savage .243 The truck erupted with back slaps and laughing like you wouldnt believe. The only thing that would have made it better was if it were my boy but cool none the less and I was glad to be a part of it.




So after all the hard work, all the illing feeders, all the game cams, all the fixing stuff that we had already fixed, after all the anticipation, what seemed like a dud of a season actually turned out really good. Last night my wife and I made bacon wrapped back strap, asparagus, rice and grilled shrimp. It was probably the best dinner we have ever made together. My little girl devoured her back strap and 7 shrimps....
