Hello, I am looking for a springer spaniel puppy. I got my son started in hunting this past deer season, and he loves the outdoors. I'm looking to extend his knowledge into birds for the next coming year, and would like him to have his first puppy to grow and hunt with. Please let me know if any of you know anyone close to San Antonio, or if you yourself sell springer spaniel puppies. Thank you.

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

Yes, I tried on there already. Listed someone in Georgetown, but it seems their number has been disconnected. These dogs are not easy to find lol. The bad thing is I had a female about 4 years ago, and bred her to my brothers male. Had about 9 very great puppies, and I gave them away to good friends. Ended up giving the female to my father, and mother, so they could have a good house companion. Now I cant find one to save my life lol. They are very awesome dogs, and I want my son to enjoy one starting at a young age. Kicking myself for not keeping a breeding pair.

I will give you something to think about. There are essentially 2 different dogs that are called Springers. There are the show bred or bench dogs and the field bred. The show bred dogs have had all of their natural instinct and drive bred out of them. Most all the show bred dogs also have aggression problems along with eye and hip issues. Then you have the field bred variety. This is what Springers were 100 years ago. Field Bred Springers are some of the most versatile hunting dogs out there. A well trained one will amaze you. For the most part the breeders are very ethical and have all the testing done to eliminate the bad dogs. So be prepared.... they aint cheap. Here is a link where you should do a lot of reading http://essft.com/You can find dogs for sale and information on breeders and trainer. Also information on Field Trials, that if you can you should go see. There is a field trial in Alvord this weekend.

He is addicted to hunting woodcock and his dogs are very good at finding and retrieving them !

Here is a picture I took of a well trained Springer flushing a pheasant, from the NTSSC field trial.
