Thanks! Yes it was my first season guiding. It was fun but also pretty tough with the crazy year we had.
Being a "guide" is easy when ducks are falling into the hole on every hunt. It's the tough years that you find what your made of. More to guiding than leading a few cats into a duck hole, setting a spread, calling in birds and working your pooch. That's the easy part. Having character, personality and connecting with your guys is what matters. This was my 20th season as a guide. Yeah most hunts are bang up. But then there are those where it just don't happen. Of course all of my clients wake up with hopes of filling a strap that morning. But on days it don't happen I'd like to think they know I've done all I can do and a morning shared with their friends and I was better than not going and wondering what if. Yeah it was a tough season in my parts. Probably the toughest I've had in 36 years I spent chasin these birds. But next season brings promise of many more great hunts spent with my clients afield, telling coffee, dranking lies, and just cutting up with one another. That's the part I enjoy the most guiding..if I didn't I woulda quit a long time ago...congrats on your first season, Brett. Work hard, show em you care, earn their respect and you'll do fine
