My father and I had a great day with Mike out at Wendy Lou. We were out hunting Red Stag.

Drove down Friday night and stop at Hammonds for BBQ. We stayed at the Rock House Bed and Breakfast in Hico, right off the main drag. Great little lime stone house from back in the day. Easy to find, would be a nice get away with the wife as well.

Woke up this morning, met Mike at the Koffee Kup, had a nice breakfast and then it was off to hunt.

We got settled into his vehicle and started to drive on the first unit. Came around a corner and a small group of red deer were about 150 yards out. Mike glassed them, told me there was a cull with them, last one on the left. Said it would need to be quick since they were jumpy and ready to bolt. Grabbed the .270, stepped out the vehicle, chambered a round, sent it down range. Cull down, went about 20 yards.

Got the Stag gutted and hanging and then we were off into another unit on the ranch after a spike. We were able to drive more and get out and walk. Wendy Lou is a beautiful place and has plenty of game to choose from. Around 11:00 we came out of a creek crossing and spotted a herd red out on a food plot. Mike and I got set and put on a nice stalk. We walked a creek bed for about a 1/4 mile and then came up the bank. Red deer were about 175-200 yards out, Found a nice spike to take. Mike told me to sit me to sit up, .270 on the sticks, found the target, and a nice spike down.

I can't say enough about the operation out at Wendy Lou and the time we spent with Mike. My father hunted there last year and I very much enjoyed my time there this year. We certainly will be going back. Wendy Lou is a great place to hunt for trophies and meat alike.

Red deer were taken with:
Remington 700 .270 CDL w/ Bell and Carlson Stock
Zeiss Conquest MC 4.5-14X44
Nosler AccuBond 130 grn

I was fortunate in that father gave the hunt to me as a Christmas gift. He was along to write the check, I didn't ask. On the Wendy Lou website, it give prices for Hinds and Spikes.

I've butchered the cull, not sure on his live weight but I have about 100 pounds boneless meat. Going to be making a lot of sausage.

I've hunted red deer at Wendy Lou about 3 times and had a blast each time. Great place with great people. Top notch place.
