Have the Remington r25 in 7mm08, and been shooting 139 grain hornady. I know ARs in general are not built to be tack drivers, and the best I can do at 100 yards is 1.5" group off a bench. I really enjoy shooting this gun, and its my first AR. Anyone have a recommendation on ammo that could possibly tighten up the groups? Would custom ammo be worth it? Thanks in advance

How many rounds have you shot thru it? Are you cleaning the barrel after each trip to range? If so don't. Clean bcg regular, disassemble and clean each part of bolt maybe 250-300 rds. Depends on how dirty your ammo is. Hand loads more often then not will help, worth a try and trigger is a big culprit on a AR style rifle. If your not crafty with Arkansas stones and lite files try a CMC 3.5lb drop in. There is still alot more that can be done to help, but try one thing at a time.

Probably about 60 rounds through it. I cleaned it on first few shots with patches. I didn't go crazy cleaning it. Everyone has a different barrel breakin theory, but there was a post on here that talked about over cleaning your barrel. It made good sense to me. Already took it completely apart and cleaned it, and put a 3lb timney in it. I just figured ammo may help a little. If I could get it closer to 1" groups i would be satisfied

HMMMMMM not sure what Barrels they use, maybe best she'll do. I think Bushmaster makes them for Big Green, never really known for match accuracy.

The trigger will help and

Get with ChadTRG here on the Forum. I think he could shrink you groups with a custom tailored load. You AR is really not made for the rapid sustained fire, it is made for hunting. I think a great reload would be the cure to biggroupitus up

AR's are in fact tack drivers. It all comes down to components. I have a pair of AR's that are equal with any of my customs. The barrels on Remington AR's are not match grade. If your looking for that moght need to consider upgrading the bbl to top tier. Also if your using std trigger group, a top tier trigger could easily uy that group in half alone.

I took several minutes in between shots. Taking plenty time in between shots yielded 1.5" groups. It groups better when the barrel is not hot. Rapid firing loosened up my group a little more. I am not concerned enough to spend a ton of money on it. Just wondered if anyone knew of a specific factory ammo or if i should try a custom load, and whether it would possibly do some good. I can definitely live with the 1.5" groups, especially for my hunting situations, Just thought if different ammo could tighten them up i would try it

You might want to try Federal Fusion Ammo. They are inexpensive for bonded bullets. They are essentially copper plated bullets like Gold Dots. As a result, they have extremely uniform jackets. Most people report very good accuracy and terminal performance.

What brand barrel is in it? Is it chrome? Sounds like the barrel tolerance is loose. Just my opinion

I wouldn't ever mess with altering a trigger with the limited knowledge I have. As said above I already put a timney trigger in it

+1, try some different ammo. My Ruger American likes the Fusion 120 gr, and the terminal performance was great!

If you have the money and really want it to shoot, take it to Chad and have him work up a load for it.
