What could be drawbacks from our State opening season when birds get down as opposed to opening for specific months and hoping for best? I cant think of any drawbacks

You'll never get the season to go past the date the biologist say the pair bonds begin.

They are here finally... saw 100's of em out this morning south of Waxahachie, mixes of gray ducks, wigeons, spoonies and redheads. Area we were in wasn't holding anything but redheads a week ago.. front must have finally pushed 'em down with a week left.

Jaymz nothing wrong with a shameless plug letting everyone know that you hammered them with Three Curl Outfitters up

But Kenny I like you logic, however Hopedale is right. The Federal Migratory act set the guidelines that each state must work within to set season dates. And biologist believe that pair bonding begins in late Jan. Early Feb. So we will never see a season last longer than that unless it can be proven differently.

El Nino exemptions should apply.

Also, you may be the first person to utter the phrase..

dumbest idea I've ever had..

They should assign points to hunting days like they used to for bag limits. From Nov 1. - Feb 15th any day you want to hunt great. You get 120 points a season November is 1 point a day, December 1, January 2, and Feb 30. You want to hunt Feb 10-12 because 'that's when all the ducks are here?' Great. Hope those 3 days are fun and your leftover 30 points for the rest of the season. Now how on earth to monitor the usage confused2

That way the points line up so you can hunt every day of the season from Nov-Jan 31 if you wanted to, but if you really wanted a 1 or 2 day hunt to kill a trophy in good plumage late season you could spend it that way also.

Birds have been here since day 1. There is so much water that they can and do move with any pressure. Just gotta keep moving and scouting

Yes ...some birds have been down here. But obviously you dont know what your talking about Elpataloco. The birds will stay up north if they can get to water and food. Genius

Stop buying duck stamps and them biologists will change their minds real quick. I mean a dead duck is a dead duck even though it may be with mate. Just my two cents

I do not agree

If you are ready to drive all over Texas you can find the birds. If you keep going to the same lake or same private spot.... juggle

As Stated, I have not had problems filling straps. Agree/disagree all you want. Mallards will stay north as long as the water is not locked up.

Plenty of cranes, ducks and geese for consistant hunts.

I don't hunt the Red or Sulphur river area anymore. I'm sorry you can't find any birds to shoot. Maybe you should change areas

Not as many birds down here as usuall this time of year. That's a fact. I'm glad some of the better hunters can get to em.

Yup water needs to lock up and food covered up as well for them to move in big numbers. Next weekend N Tx 70 degrees. We are scrwd- I am 10% above last year w average birds per hunt up 40% from last year. North hole was very holt early in season.

Had 50-75 mallards on it last 2 weeks of season last year. Today 5 bang

You can't have a full season where it's peak hunting for months. Too many birds would die. Its the same problem everywhere in North America. Always has been, always will be. First half of the season is marginal, most of the fair weather hunters are done by migration time, leaving the last few weeks/month for seasoned guys to enjoy the best hunting with less competition. While I do agree our season should be longer. I have buds in Montana that have 120 days to hunt. Just stop taking vacation days early in the season
