Anyone looked through one of these yet? Maybe not the best, but maybe good enough.

Good enough for what? It has a 160x120 microbolometer and is apparently a 1x optical magnification scope. Range is listed at 100 yards, but no idea what you can see at 100 yards. My guess is that the resolution is so low, that you won't be able to tell the difference between a deer, hog, or cow at 100 yards. If it was 2x (optical), that would be worthwhile. http://www.flir-direct.com/product/flir-...fPzxRoCXsnw_wcB

Get what you pay....that never changes... I agree and thus my reservations. That said, I know the technology is rapidly evolving. If my need is detection within 200 yards and I can get that for $600, then I might well buy without hesitation. I've got Gen3 NV, and I can use that for identification, although a higher quality thermal unit would obviously be preferred. But not for $3,000, at least for me.

What ends up happening is you are never quite happy with a product like that. You eventually decide you want to be able to ID at greater distance and end up buying another unit, usually the higher end one. I think everyone on this trail has done that at one time or another.
