Ok, I live in the libertard hippy capital of this state - Austin; and even after having traveled from Austin all the way to Oklahoma last weekend, I am still yet to see anyone actually openly carrying a side arm on their hip in this state.
I personally will not be openly carrying a gun around; but should the need arise I want to make sure I have the facts straight about it.
As I understand it you can openly carry now as long as you have a valid CHL and that the pistol is in a holster worn either on your belt or shoulder rig; and you are not allowed to open carry anywhere where you are not allowed to concealed carry......Do I have the short and long of it correct?
People of the LEO community please chime in with the actual particulars of this and if possible let us know what you have been told by your department as far as enforcement guide lines.
FYI - Believe it or not the University of Texas is NOT a gun free zone despite the efforts of the "Gun Free UT" organization; you can carry on campus with the following restrictions (as of 8/1/16).
1. Concealed carry ONLY- No open carry
2. Weapon must be carried in a holster that completely covers the trigger & trigger housing.
3. Semi auto pistols must be carried on an EMPTY CHAMBER
4. All state and federal laws must be adhered to.
