I have an older Ruger Mini 14 ranch rifle with an old redfield scope. Thinking about taking off scope and going to iron sights or something else for quick target acquisition. Any suggestions.

There are some good 1-4 and 1-6 power scopes out there now with illuminated reticles that on low power are about like shooting a red dot but can crank up the power for longer range or more precise shooting. I am liking the Vortex Strike Eagle so far. Many manufactures are making such now. Burris has one that includes a red dot on top of the scope. Kinda a neat idea, not sure that its setup would work well on the Ruger with the mount that comes on the scope/red dot though.

vortex crossfire II with the lighted reticle, had a 3-9x40 on a mini thirty and it was a great combo for pigs.

Only because it's a reasonably priced, well built scope that does well for most AR/AK/Mini 14 uses.
