I have friends who home brew beer, a by product is the used mash they typically discard.
What are opinions on using it as hog bait? I could put in pails and freeze until I need it so it would not get nasty.
And then there is a micro brew where I often eat, maybe I could get old mash from them.
Anybody tried this? I did earth the forum without results.

Doubt it's been tried by many, I'm sure it will work as hogs will eat anything eventually

It's grain with all of the sugars removed. It's not a good food but they will dang sure enjoy it. I bet deer will eat it too.

They like it... I use to dump the old beer left on the 5stand range in a bucket full of corn and let it sit for a few days... put it in the back of the truck and bait traps with only a cup or two vs a lot of dry corn... saved money and actually worked.. really though you can get the same with just putting corn in a barrel and soaking it in water for a few weeks... only take a week in the summer.. I just happen to have a source of old beer and I never waste beer except hinykin... I dumped all that nasty stuff

Mr. Oxner would strangle you for saying that about his beloved beer.

Use a splash of diesel fuel on your corn and you can use it right away for hog bait, and won't have problems with other animals eating it. A LOT easier than any of the other "home brews" I've tried. Dig a nice hole with your posthole digger, drop in the corn, pour in a bit of diesel, and let the porkers have at it! You can sit in your blind and pick 'em off as they dig and eat.

Thanks for input.
I figured it was not much good as food but was hoping it would draw some in.
I may give it a try next hunting trip, only get to hunt Texas once a year due to the distance.
If I I do will report results either way.

@Navasot, you mean deer or raccoon?

In my trap, I am trying to give hog a better chance. I am currently using sour corn as bait, but raccoon loves it also.

We used to put it out to draw hogs. We had a friend who worked at stroh's brewery and would get us as much as we wanted. it has a very strong odor that really carries along way. It seemed to draw on pigs for miles.

For coons, use golden malrin fly bait mixed with strawberry jello powder (no water). It will take care of your coon problem real quick but be careful and make sure it's elevated. Anything that eats it will die quickly. I have found coons 50 ft from the feeder. I bolted a 6" stainless dog food bowl to the top of my feeder platform and fed it from there. You can get it at Tractor Supply and coons love it

Homebrewing is a side-hobby, so I'll definitely have to give this a try. Good idea!

Just don't tell anyone as it is illegal to use fly bait for mammals. Also anything that eats the coon will die too.
