Anyone else ever pulled their hair out trying to get that front ring clocked right? I need to bump it .005 and end up moving it .25. Frustrating as all get out and not a fan of the rear windage mount either. Seems like a fine way to bend a scope tube. I threw it in the junk pile and bought a set of Talley one piece mounts.

I know those are popular, and kind of old school, and they work for a ton of people. but I hate that design. It doesn't provide anything a standard ring doesn't. And just seems like it adds one more possible failure point.

I also really dislike the design, except where the mounting holes in the receiver aren't straight. If the screw holes are straight, then the dual-dovetail are vastly superior.

I'm specifically removing a one piece standard design base on which a pop-up peep sight is mounted. It had to be quite expensive, but I really distrust the standard design, particularly with non-lightweight scopes.

To get the front ring straight I get it close, then install the rear ring and then put a length of one inch dowel in the rings. The. Put the ring tops on and tighten them down. Remove the dowel and it is straight enough.

The Leupold Std. mount system is never my first choice but it does serve a purpose. If the receiver is not drilled and tapped in perfect alignment then the coarse windage adjustment on the rear ring is invaluable. There are other mounting systems that will compensate for mistapped receivers, I just happen to prefer Leupold.

If your rear ring (dovetail) has a windage adjustment, then they are rubbish, throw them in the trash like I did. Would not even give them away.

To each his own. If they were that bad I doubt so many PH's would use them.
