I couldn't find my old Snipe thread They hit them pretty good yesterday. They made an early pass through there and picked up four while I waited on my Gator. They made a second pass after I left and emailed me this picture.

Cool! I have shot a couple but they are not super common on my place as they just pass through. They don't seem to hold well on the few I have seen. But I am not a snipe man.....

I've only seen two pointed in my 50 years of bird doging.

How does one hunt snipe? Where are they generally located? Is it in marshy areas? Do you use a dog?

Give us your best overview on how to snipe hunt. Seriously. No paper sacks, sticks and night hunting as it goes with the joke

You need a pillowcase, a flashlight, and a snipe call.

It's just jump shooting. They took one dog to retrieve. They are tough shots and flush a good distance from the gunner. They are usually at the edge of shallow water. There's a forum called The Snipe Hunters Forum. It was down for awhile. You might try to Google it.

Edit: Here you go. Some THF members are on there, including Sniper John.

Lot's of great pictures.

SHR Vermilion Dash Rip Rock JHA NAVHDA Prize I

Those of you that remember Blaze, she is still around, retired, blind, fat, and happy. Dash, nephew to my old Snipe Dog Blaze has turned out well for me following in her footsteps. Here is a few random pictures of Dash from the last two or three years to get the dog forum 2015 season started. Afterall he is a "pointer, retriever, and flusher". A pretty good tree dog on squirrels too.

Another hunt from last season. http://texashuntingforum.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/5598271
I have not been able to get Dash out hunting much lately due related to family health issues, but do hope to get some snipe hunting done in Feb again. With as mild and wet winter we have had I would bet the late season Snipe hunting is pretty good this year. And BTW I prefer a big net. It is much easier to get the Snipe to run into the net than it is with a white pillowcase.

A lot like a dove. I think they're a bit more tender tho.
