Last year I loaded a bunch of 168gr Barnes TSX for my .308 and I've been very pleased with them. I've about shot up the last of them though. While I like the bullet and have had great results with it, I'd like to find something a little cheaper to shoot. I'm shooting deer, pigs and coyote here and there.

I've kind of narrowed my choices down to SGKs, A-max, and maybe Nosler BT. I'm open to suggestions for others though. I've got some 165gr partitions that I'm going to try again to find a good load on but they're no cheaper than the TSX.

SGKs and A-Max will serve you well. SGKs are my personal choice.

With the velocities of the mid to heavy weight bullets in a .308, I think the A-max would be perfect.

Speer Grand Slam 150 gr. flat base. Cheaper than Nosler. Good groups & good medicine for game in need of a dirt nap. Coyotes flip for it.

Hard to beat the SSTs as far as bang for your buck. I shoot the 150s and never had any deer or hog (up to 400 lbs) walk it off. And with 43.9 gr of Varget, I get clover leafs.

Scenar 155's....about $40 a 100ct....and good enough out to 1K, and for Elk, without hittng bone.

For some CHEAP deals on recycled new and occasionaly new bullets and brass ...look at RMR.com...'specially in 1k lots.

Lots of good bullets out there, if you decide to try Nosler keep an eye on this site for over runs and blemishes at a price reduction. Have shot lots of the Blemished bullets from them. http://www.shootersproshop.com Do not see many there right now but they show up pretty often the stock changing often.

Man i was shooting 168 gr. A-max, and i went to a 165 Gr. Sierra Game King. The sierras will shoot great and punch any animal you would want. I also tried the Berger 168 gr. classic hunters, and they shoot good as well they just act a little different when they hit an animal. Oh, i use RL15 for all.

As a general purpose bullet in the 308, a 165 SGK would be dang hard to beat. Or the AMAX, either one. The SGK is going to be tougher if big pigs are in the mix. But honestly, at that bullet weight in the 308, there are lots of good options. Pretty hard to go wrong, really.

I've used the Sierra 165 GameKing a lot and love it. It puts some serious hurt on deer. Makes a mess of the insides and usually exits.
