I think you're good either way, chemdawg. They're both good.

I still think if you're recoil sensitive the 7-08 is not the best choice caliber but your gun choice is fine

What kicks less than a 7/08 that those rifles are chambered for?

I'm not sure because I've haven't looked at the specific rifles he has interest in. One of his first post was mention of the need of a low recoil round

I don't recall if he mentioned what he intended to use the rifle for. That would factor in.

Have you considered the Tikka T3? If recoil is an issue look at the 25-06 or 260 if you hand load or 243 either which will all have less recoil than the 7-08.

My 25-06 has much more recoil than my wife's 7/08. They're both Brownings and hers weighs less. I don't know what the heavier offerings are like, but the 120 grain bullets don't kick much in her gun.

A t3 is an excellent rifle but honestly the lightweight of it makes even the medium calibers more noticeable. That light of gun would defeat the purpose of light recoil for him

chemdog,

I have a Weatherby Vanguard S2 in a 7mm-08 (built by Howa for Weatherby). Recoil is about the same as my custom 25-06. I also have a Weatherby Vanguard S2 in 243. Recoil is very light. I chose the Weatherby's primarily for the extra 2" of barrel.
I don't think you'll need anything 'extra' on either of them. The stocks are fairly solid, barrels of the one's I've seen in stores appear to be floated and accuracy is very good (once you find the factory load that that particular rifle likes, or, you find the right load through re-loading).

Bottom line, check Bud's, Grab-a-Gun and anyone else offering online what you're wanting and go from there. Any of the Howa/Weatherby Vanguards would work just fine in the 7mm-08

Like stated above a 25-06 will kick as much as 7mm-08, try a .243 recoil will be less, with bullet weight not much different.
