I have always resisted black powder. Saying that if I ever got around to a muzzleloader, it would be a cap n ball, wood stocked with brass trim, plains rifle. Well a month or so ago one of my patients was unloading a bunch of stuff. One of those things was a cva magbolt 150. After scoping it, and testing different powder/bullet combo's, (it seems to work best with 2 triple 7 pellets and a 295 grain powerbelt), I am going on my 1st black powder only hunt this weekend. I am hoping that since we haven't hunted much since Thanksgiving, our farm has cooled off and I will see something. Wish me luck!

I use three Triple Seven 50 gr pellets in mine, but have the capabilities of going up to 4(200 gr) if need be.....

I use pellets also, they are more consistent. Good luck man Been muzzleloading for years and I get way better results from loose powder. 100 grains by volume of Triple 7, pushing Hornady 250 grain SST.

I have a Mag Bolt 150. It likes 150 grains(3 Pyrodex pellets), pushing a 245 grain Powerbelt. Very accurate and fast for bullet performance. Might try that combo some time. Good luck either way, its a blast!
