You will have to have three if you want to hunt two. Lets say you start with just one. It gets old and dies. You'll be without until the pup gets ready...............

You could probably get the same effect if you tell her the dogs think 1 wife is not enough.

My husband said "Two dogs was MY limit." So I let my daughter get a bird dog puppy.
Its easier to walk in the door with a cute puppy in your arms, than argue over how many dogs you want.
I don't have to ask for forgiveness, the puppy will win him over every time.

The years I was into night hunting, it was kinda exciting to have all those hounds. Each one always seemed to have it's own different personality making it that much more fun. But now years later surrounded by more city and having a human family life makes it not be possible for me to raise, train, and hunt that many. Not unless it was something I made income from. Into versatile pointing dogs now, I'll stick with one to two dogs overlapping the second dog by a few years so that I am never without. The idea is to always have at least one working dog to hunt with while the other is a pup in training or retired from old age.

I remember as a kid. My mom started complaining about my dads bird dogs. He told her that good Dogs are hard to come by but he could find another wife just about anywhere. She never talked about his dogs again.
