Got one on the way. Would like to hear from those with some experience with ammo on this. This will be a white tail gun in .308. Considering Hornady Superformance, SST 165 gr. My 5R Milspec 24" handles this round well.

I don't care for the SST bullet, after a few years of trying it I haven't had very good luck and have not been happy with the lack of pass throughs and carnage caused

Pass throughs are overrated.

I like two holes for the blood to come out of, with the exit hole hopefully being considerably larger than the entrance. 2xs the SST hit the shoulder blade and stopped their, no more penetration, and a long tracking job. I want something that's going to keep on trucking through

Get a good bullet that opens at slow speeds. Every CTR i have seen shoots SLOW. My buddies current CTR 260 is shooting 140 grain bergers at 2545fps at max recommended charge. even getting slight pressure signs to get to that point. my other buddies was shooting at 2575 with pressure signs.

Not sure if I'd blame the gun for slow velocities and pressure signs. What's the breakdown on the load?

Thanks for the comments so far. As for accuracy, what bullet weight? As mentioned, I'm hoping the CTR handles the 165 gr that my 5R shoots well. As for the bullet composition, I'm ok with the results so far.

The twist on m 5R is 11-1/4, Tikka is 11. Barrel on the Tikka is 4" shorter, at 20". The thread profile is also different: 5R is 5 radius grooves, Tikka is 4 90°. I'll start with my preferred ammo and hope for 1MOA or less.

Mine loves the 165 SST Superformence and the 168 amax Superformence -- .5 MOA on both. Getting right around 2740 fps on the SST.

That's good to hear. That's what I wanted to start with.

As for pass thru, I like it. My 7 mag exited every deer I shot. On some bigs hogs it didn't and they were still DRT. I shot my first buck this year with this ammo in .308, no exit and DRT. This shot was head on, square in the upper chest so I wouldn't expect an exit wound, but this ammo creates a huge initial wound channel, and all the shock was contained in the cavity. I'm happy so far.
