Went to sit in a blind this morning to see what bucks made the season. The morning started with this...

Great picture. Have seen a few LF survivors around here. One pretty good 8 point before you get to town and as always quite a few in town.

Any photos of the survivors. Here are pics of a few. 3 pics are from yesterday evening and the rest from this morning. Most of the bucks were gone before sunrise. With the cloud cover keeping it darker, I did not get any pics till later. 3 pics of young bucks from yesterday evening. Pic of a group of bucks at sunrise. I think this buck has hoof-rot. He was limping a bit 2 weeks ago and not putting much weight on that hoof. This morning he was not moving around well at all and putting no weight on the hoof. You can see the swell in that hoof and it is causing the hoof to splay open from the swelling. He was eating well and jumped into the feed pen. Have TC pics of him at night eating protein. I have TC pics of another mature buck that has a front hoof that is swollen even more than this bucks. I am guessing he has hoof-rot also. I had seen him over a month when I got TC pics of him a couple of weeks ago. He has lost quite a bit of weight but eating protein in the pens from time to time. Thanks to all the rains there are a lot of winter weeds and oats is doing great. Had another .42" to .61" this morning. This buck must have gotten got his back leg caught in a fence when trying to jump. He was giving on it a times and limping when he put weight on it. I had seen him about a couple of days ago and he was fine then. Another young buck.

Great pics...what's the usual outcome of hoof rot?
If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

Great pics...what's the usual outcome of hoof rot? Still not 100% sure it is hoof rot but it appears to be. The hoof could heal, the infection could get worse causing all or part of the hoof to slough off and the deer could still live or the deer could die. The hoof could heal and then the deer could get the hoof rot again at a later date. Seen all of the above happen and antler growth will rarely go back to normal when they live. With coyotes being so bad this year, those bucks could be an easy catch in the early stages of it. I am working on coyotes with them being so active.

Great job on all pictures. Good luck on the hoof rot. Too much wet weather cause the rot?
