I came to visit my family here near Iowa City. Long story short I ended up on a 40 acre place that's pretty awesome! I was dragging my feet out the door to hunt, wind chills in the -10 range? Wasn't really looking forward to my last day sit to be honest. We get to the place and I've never hunted it before. I found a large crossing and sat down, about 10 minutes after sitting down 7 does and 1 decent buck come out that was around 3:10. I sat there, my face into the wind. I couldn't feel my face at all by around 4:10. I decided to get up, I was walking around looking to see if I could find a shed or two and I saw a large bodied deer with what I thought were antlers run across the neighbors field on the other side of the road. I decided it was time to make my move. I ran over to the other end of the 40 acres and snuck up over a hill were I thought he would cross. I pop the hill and look into the field I thought he was in...all that was there was a giant doe. I sat there watching the doe for 20 more minutes and decided it was time to call it a night. I was on my knees and then down about 50 yards from the road on the place I was hunting this buck was standing there. I got down FAST and got ready for my shot, I didn't have time to even look at his antlers. I could only tell he was a big mature buck that was wide. I put the cross hairs on him and squeezed the trigger for 150yards He dropped and didn't even move, I didn't even know how big he really was until I watched his head fold back. It's tradition to take pictures with my cat I forgot to put to put this on my other forums, but I have a good story that connects to this! I was on my way home from shed hunting a property with a buddy (about 2 hours from home, shot this buck 4 hours from home) It was getting dark, I was about 7-8 miles from the nearest restroom and I sure had to go bad! I pulled off onto a gravel road and shut my lights out and was just stepping out of my Jeep when I hear sirens and then spots lights were on my Jeep. I hear a voice say "I'm going to need to look in the back of your vehicle sir." I'm standing there and I look at the state patrol man and say "Yeah, sure!" at this point a younger officer ran up to me and stood right next to me, I swear he was going to grab my arm or something. I told the officer "There's a deer back there." his facial expression changed in a hurry! He looked at me with a "Are you serious?" look. He opened the back of my Jeep and say the deer and said "It really is a deer!" The younger officer looked at me and I said "Yeah, shot it Sunday night!" (It's Wednesday night, temps were in the singles) the young officer looked at me and said "Since Sunday?" he was obviously freaked out and thought it was gross. Got a good laugh at it and the other trooper stayed in his vehicle. The reason they checked was because I had blood all down the back of my Jeep from loading the buck and I'm sure someone called me in and they had to have followed me over 20 miles. I had a good laugh! He's all cut up now I scored him at 148.5" Gross, he's a super symmetrical 10pt!

Beautiful buck, fun story to read too!
We kept it as a pet for several months until it got run over by a truck. Then we ate him.

great buck man
If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

Haha love the cat in this pic. Great buck!
A real hunter never returns empty handed. Spending time in the wilderness temporarily satifies the soul, but leaves us longing for more.

...but did you ever get to relieve yourself or did the lights and sirens just cause you to soil your pants?
Seriously, nice deer and great story. Congratulations!
